The Nags Head in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire is an AA 4 Star graded traditional 15th century country inn and restaurant situated along the valley of the River Misbourne in the glorious Chiltern Hills.

Brought to you by the Michaels family, owners of the award-winning Bricklayers Arms in Flaunden, Hertfordshire, the newly refurbished Nags Head serves an “Anglo - French” fusion menu. The Nags Head has been awarded an AA Rosette for it’s culinary excellence and accredited in several guides including a Hardens Guide “Commenendation Award”, chosen as “AA Pick of the Pubs” in the AA Pub Guide and a recommendation in the much coveted Michelin guide and featured on the front cover of Michelin’s “eating out in pubs” guide 2010. It was also named in BBC Countryfile’s cosiest pubs.

The kitchen is run under the auspices of head chef, Tomas Topolar.

I booked a table in the outdoor tipi months in advance, specifically as we were dining with our young children in tow and needed some extra space. On arrival staff couldn't retrieve the full booking and the system had apparently randomly allocated us an indoor table. These things happen, but instead of resolving this quickly and smoothly by giving us a table (which we could clearly see was free and ready) in the tipi, staff insisted that was reserved for people who had yet to arrive and may or may not have wanted a table in the tipi. We tried to sit inside but it was simply too cramped, by which time there were even more free tables in the tipi. Eventually we insisted they find us space outside and they did but the whole thing took the best part of 20 minutes and spoiled what was intended to be a special occasion. Thereafter the food itself was very good and the service was reasonable although attentiveness tailed off again towards the end of the meal. A shame because we'd heard really good things but I don't think we'll hurry back.

Poor service, table booked but no reserved table, waited ages to be served at bar and then reduced menu . No check in on food . Food over priced. Hostess was doing her best but either understaffed or inept staff.

We had a very nice late Sunday lunch after a long country walk. Main courses were lovely and very filling. I wasn’t that keen on the pork and bread appetiser. It was my second visit to the pub and I would certainly go again.

We've been coming here for years and this was the best food we've ever had at the restaurant. Really spot on with a fantastic atmosphere. It would have been good to have had the fire lit in the Teepee as it did get cold and the service in general was below standard. We had to ask for drinks, things were forgotten / delayed. I would highly recommend but felt they were missing someone in charge of the front of house who would have made the meal better value for the upper end price.
