Nami Kaze Hawaii is the story of Chef Jason Peel’s culinary journey. Executive chef: Jason Peel

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Jason Peel is known nationally as the former executive chef for Roy’s Waikiki and beloved locally as a cooking instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. He opened his own restaurant Nami Kaze in 2022, quickly scoring a couple of James Beard Award nominations for izakaya-style small plates, both hot and cold, that star ingredients from favorite local farmers and fishermen. It’s always great at Nami Kaze. I’ve eaten at Nami Kaze about six times and the food and service is awesome. The people that work there really do care about their job and it shows in their service.

Good food, good service. My problem is that the place can't seem to figure out who it wants to be: fine dining? Sports bar? And it was even more confusing given the music blaring in the kitchen and the music playing in the dining room—which were fighting for attention for those of us sitting at the sushi bar.

Had another excellent meal here. My sister and I shared several dishes, ordering multiple sushi rolls, appetizers, and desserts. We also tried some of their drinks. The new 2025 menu offerings were delightful. We'll definitely be back soon.

One of our favorite restaurants on Oahu. Every dish is so balanced and tied in with different cultures. Service is AMAZING. Every person we recommended this place too also ended up loving it here. Just celebrated my gf’s birthday and they made it extra special. Love it here!!!

This was an impromptu choice but WOW! The fix prix was an excellent value. Everything was delicious. Staff was very knowledgeable about menu. Entire staff were conscientious and pleasant. Was a late lunch so few diners. Open kitchen was not overly noisy. Have a feeling a busier time would have meant a louder experience given the open seating. But it would need to be deafening for us not to go back!

Heard the lunch menu changed to a prix fixe menu, and we were pleasantly surprised by the selections offered. We ordered different entrees - pork belly, ginger chicken/ahi poke, and fish and chips. Everything, including the appetizer, was tasty. Dessert was a delicious tiny piece of cake (a little bigger piece would be great!). We were told the entrees are changed up within the month, so I’m looking forward to see what Chef has on the menu next month! p.s. I miss the Custard French Toast… maybe add it as an entree?!

Service was impeccable. Wait Staff were not only attentive, but extremely happy, and friendly. My wife and I eat out a lot, and have found that since COVID, most restaurant staff appear tired, burned out, and generally not happy. The staff's positive vibe permeates the restaurant.
