We had an excellent, if limited choice, fixed price lunch today. Delicious food, very good value, attentive service, stylish decor. The only criticism is the background so-called music which was merely a loud heavy beat with no tune that at times appeared to be stuck in a groove. Apart from that we would highly recommend the restaurant.

As always this place is just very good. We had the set two course lunch for £17..... a fantastic smoked mackerel cream coating whole pieces of fish with toast and cornichons followed by one of the best schnitzels, very moist and lightly but crisply breaded, on the market and some fries on the side. The portions were more than generous... which is generally not the case with set lunches, all washed done with a carafe of rose and then coffee.... £70 for two. I call that great value for very top quality. £17 for a two course top restaurant quality meal? You can't get greasy fish and chips in an average pub for that these days!! The staff are always helpful and informative. Attentive but overly so and the young chap we had today was excellent. And when I scored the noise level "quiet" that was a complement. 2/3 of table taken (on a Tuesday lunch time) and a nice hum to the atmosphere. Will be back!

It was a time limited meal before theatre so the number od dishes sampled was limited. All of us were well satisfied with the quality and presentation of the food. Main dishes arrived quite promptly too but the orders could have been taken quicker. Our first time in this restaurant but I think we will be back to sample more. There are a lot of junk eateries in Oxford so if you want to rise above that, give this place a try.

Interesting and well prepared food. Excellent, careful service, especially for our friend with allergies.

I chose No1 Ship street specially because I wanted a once in a lifetime experience. A large, expensive lobster. I got just what I wanted and it was perfect. My colleagues had surf and turf, lobster and cote de beef which was also very good. It was costly but as Jay Rayner wrote, 'if anybody tells you they've found a cheap source of lobster, back away. There is no such thing as a good cheap lobster.'

We had a good meal here, but I do think it’s over priced, we ordered mussels to start and no bread was served with them, we ordered a side of bread, but for a supposedly top class restaurant the bread was poor. Our waitress didn’t have a clue of the menu, we asked several questions that she wasn’t aware of and never came back with an answer. We were charged 12% service charge (which I know we should have removed), unfortunately the service really wasn’t up to standard. Our main courses were good quality and favourable, we ordered two side greens only one came and again not of the best quality. The atmosphere is pleasant, but can get loud as tables are close together. Overall I would say we had an enjoyable evening, but was more due to the company and wouldn’t be in a hurry to book again.

Excellent lunch at No.1 Ship Street. Our waiter was wonderful, knowledgeable and charming. We enjoyed a good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The menu was unusual with some fabulous choices. My mum had the fallow deer suet pudding and the pastry was gorgeous. My husband and I chose the pig cheeks with polenta, again excellent and my step-dad the roquefort souffle. We shared chocolate truffles and rice pudding for dessert. Great atmosphere. A lovely little spot in Oxford for a relaxed experience. This was our second visit.
