The dome-shaped venue on the Hoe, aptly named The Dome, was designed by architect Tony Irish. The Dome was first opened in July 1988 as part of Mayflower commemorations in Plymouth and started life as a local museum and tourist information centre.

Designed to have the Art Deco feel and opulence of a 1930s ocean liner, the venue’s bar will feature an extensive wine and gin list, a selection of cocktails plus a full range of beers, ciders and soft drinks.

The restaurant’s menu will feature fresh, local and seasonal produce and will include fish sourced from local day boats. We will also be offering traditional afternoon teas.

There will be opportunities for private dining, small weddings and business meetings – all set against a spectacular ocean view backdrop!

Went for brunch with coffees. Drinks were fine & arrived fairly quickly. Food arrived 50+ minutes later. Bacon, sausage & beans were decently hot. Tomato, mushrooms & toast were tepid. The open plan layout & hard floors & walls create a lot of noise for the number of diners. We were in the restaurant for this meal over 2 hours.

My first time at Ocean View was December 2023, It was excellent, food piping hot, the restaurant was very busy, but very well managed, great atmosphere, could not find fault, today I revisited for a roast, oh dear, how standards have fallen….. The roast was warm, edible but nothing like I had before, I could not cut the beef to eat, although cooked very nicely, it was very fatty and inedible, the vegetables were acceptable, just ! Staff were very attentive and very polite and offered us a free dessert because we could not eat the beef, the dining room was cold, very little atmosphere, and all the windows constantly steamed up so no view of the outside at all, we decided to take our coffee in the room at other end of the building, hoping it would be warmer, it was colder, I asked for the heating to be put on, it didn’t make much difference, what a shame the standards have fallen so much, I definitely would not recommend, it was so disappointing, I couldn’t believe the difference from my last visit, I felt sorry for the staff, they seemed to be trying their best, but it was a very poor meal for the money, it’s not nice being sat somewhere cold eating a lukewarm meal.

Having eaten the Sunday roast here recently, we assumed that the normal menu would be as equally good… wrong… I guess the empty restaurant should have been the give away… We had to send back three lots of fish and chips as the fish was like rubber and unable to even cut it. The staff offered to replace it but to be honest seeing as all three were the same it was unlikely that the new batch would be any better. We chose another meal which came out quite quickly. We were offered complimentary olives and bread (which none of us wanted or liked) However, what would have been a nice gesture is if the two coffees at the end of the meal were removed from the bill… Had this been our first ever visit we would never return nor recommend it… but hopefully this was a one off, but will stick to Sunday visits only…

The restaurant is in a lovely interesting building with great views of our beautiful Plymouth Sound. The food is delicious and the service professional, warm and welcoming.

We all had a brunch which was good quality food and excellent value being buy one get one free. The staff were friendly and the view amazing. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to returning for dinner.

Afternoon tea. Expensive for what it was. Service was poor. Nobody came to the table to check if everything was ok. No sugar provided for tea and coffee. Expected better.

Went in for a birthday lunch with my dad and doggy. I appreciate the front area is doggy friendly whereas the restaurant is more unique and non dog friendly so could have gone there for a better service but every time we go to the cafe part it's a nightmare for service that I don't know why we go back. I understand it's more a drop in area but then don't offer restaurant food. I dropped my dad at the door whilst I went to park. He stood at the bar waiting to be seen whilst your staff acknowledged him, they just carried on doing their tidying before finding out what he wanted, a good 5 minutes after he arrived. This happens every time. He has a bad back so could really have done with being seen and taken or shown to our reserved table. It wouldn't have taken long I went to the bar to find out the fish of the day. The staff saw me stood there but again carried on for ages before asking what I needed. Bearing in mind there was no one else stood waiting at the bar. It was just me. When we decided on what to eat, I went to the bar to order. Another couple next to me were being served and then the waitress went to find out something from the kitchen. Another waiter came out to serve the couple again, when they said they were already being served the waiter walked away. I had to follow him to ask him if he would serve me whilst they waited for the other waitress. He didn't acknowledge me until I asked to be served and then questioned why I wasn't with the other couple....seemed very odd! Food arrived very quickly. It was lovely and very enjoyable. We digested our food for a good while before deciding on dessert but although the waiting staff were clearing other tables they didn't clear ours and I heard another couple ask for theirs to be cleared but it seemed a bit of a hassle. When desserts arrived the waiter struggled to put the desserts on the table due to our main plates still there. I ended up apologising for this! It just feels so unorganised and uncomfortable
