The Old Captiva House: Our historic restaurant that dates to the 1920s, beautifully appointed today with walls of white French doors and polished hardwood floors, yours to reserve in part or in total. Capacity 160. Sunset Lounge: This quiet, intimate room adjacent to the Old Captiva House is all windows and altogether charming. Beautiful views of Americas most romantic sunsets. We were seated at a table for 6-8 and there were just four of us. That gave no ambiance or privacy. The waitress did her best to serve us promptly but staffing was low. Still, we were shocked at the cost of items on the menu ($16 salad, $52 entree, etc.). The soup had little or no lobster chunks as had been touted. There was nothing special to merit the cost. It was very disappointing for a special night out with friends.

Our waiter was not very attentive. He never returned to see how our food was. We waited 15 minutes after someone cleared our plates for him to come back to see if we wanted dessert then another 10 for him to give us a bill and at least another 10 to process it. Restaurant back room half empty. He also wasn’t very friendly. Just wasn’t a great experience.

Atmosphere is lovely and one can actually carry on a conversation. As seems to be the norm on the Island, the waitstaff is seen to be handling many tables at once so their scarce appearance at ones table is almost to be expected. On the other hand, the food was disappointing. Ordering dish of shrimp w lobster and crab stuffing, only the risotto had much flavor. My companion ordered a similar dish w scallops and they were delicious. Now, having said all that, I would like to read of experiences of others in case I just had an off night.

we sat inside and had a perfect view of the beach and sunset. Our service Mackie was terrific - and he made really delicious old fashioneds! We ordered escargot and caprese salad - both wonderful and the sea bass special and grouper entree. All very good. We brought home some leftovers so we will also have it for dinner tonight. It was our first visit there and we would love to come back.

Richard as our server was outstanding. Helpful (he suggested my wife's dinner, which was an A+), available but not intrusive. A lot of confusion checking us in at the front entry (third in line and 15 minutes) but they were very busy. Comfortable, casually elegant with exciting food choices. Wine was served impeccably and at perfect temperature, and my wife's appetizer and entre were choices she raved over. Shared a dessert with an after dinner drink to make for an evening to remember.
