Storytellers of Edinburgh Afternoon Tea

Inspired by Edinburgh's famous authors, their words and their wisdom, our afternoon tea celebrates the city's storytellers and their famous tales. Each dish will take you on a journey of escapism through different chapters of history inspired by stories, poetry and prose. From Robert Burns to Irvine Welsh and many in between, this afternoon tea menu draws inspiration from each storyteller's depiction of our city and each dish represents a different chapter, fact or fiction, for you to enjoy in the world's first UNESCO City of Literature! Please note from the 4th Dec to 4th Jan all Afternoon Teas will be from our Festive menu. This experience is served in One Square Brasserie and requires a minimum of 24 hours notice.

Enjoy an elegant two-course brunch with La Garde Ecossaise Champagne. Begin with a sharing platter of fresh fruit, pastries & more, then a delightful brunch dish of your choice. Add a glass of La Garde Ecossaise Brut for £12 or upgrade to 1/2 bottle per person for £42. Scotland's famous 'Auld Alliance' with France was forged through centuries of shared values and strategic interests. In the 1420's, 6000 Scottish soldiers arrived in France to fight against the English. Their bravery was honoured with the Kings of France naming their personal bodyguard La Garde Ecossaise du Corps Du Roi; the Scottish Bodyguards to the King. This experience is in One Square Bar with live DJ each Saturday. Not available on the first Sunday of the month.

Excellent service and a very pleasant restaurant to dine in. We had the Chef’s 5 course Taster menu and as expected the courses were all good except for the slow cooked beef. It was exceptionally tough and sinewy and seemed like it had been pan cooked/grilled like a steak as opposed to braised. This just took the edge of what was otherwise a lovely meal.

Staff were great. Food was good. Only problem was we’re were put on high table with stools that my wife has a problem with. Not a major problem but booked a restaurant and expected a normal chair. Maybe I should have checked ? You like to if you prefer a chair when eating.

We had the champagne brunch and really enjoyed it! The staff were lovely and very attentive. The bar was very nicely decorated and had comfy seats. The brunch was really nice and good value, we had a glass of champagne each to start then we were given a platter with fresh fruit, pastries and desserts. There was so much on this platter for 2 people! We then ordered out mains which were really tasty - I got the hot smoked salmon, poached eggs, lime avocado and beetroot on rye, and my partner got the venison sausage bagel. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great experience!

Service and Food excellent but more expensive than our last visit given price increase. However, probably still not bad value when I compare to others offering the same kind of Sunday Lunch - although it may make me think about trying somewhere different when going out in a large family group .

Table of 4 for Sunday carvery. Excellent choice of starters, 2 meats for mains, huge choice of desserts. At your own pace. No rush. A small quartet playing in the background. Wonderful Sunday lunch
