After reading the reviews, we thought this restaurant was a must for steak in Steamboat. We knew the prices were high, but don’t mind when the food and atmosphere are worth it. Neither is true. Starting with the do-it-yourself basic salad bar with too wet lettuce and plastic containers that reminded us of some low end chain restaurant. Then the $70 and $80 steaks, which despite being cooked to the right temperature, lacked even basic seasoning. Bland bernaise sauce, bright yellow tasteless cheese sauce on the house specialty potato. The one bright spot was our kind, efficient server. Seated off near the service area, we never even saw the famed fireplace. A too high bench seat at the table made eating less comfortable. We might as well have been in any colorless restaurant anywhere. $280 later (no appetizer or dessert), we left confused as to why this restaurant is a recommended favorite.

Greeted and seated immediately. Colorado-Western type theme to the decor. Small but inviting bar with 4-5 barstools. Excellent selection of wines and liquors. We were seated in a rear room which contained a large stone fireplace. We ordered from the Sunset menu which is valid between 5-6pm and offers a reduced price point. Two in our party ordered the 10oz. sirloin. Both very good and prepared as ordered. Teriyaki chicken was also good. Entrees are served with salad bar and 2 sides. Be sure to get the House Potatoes as one of the sides. Salad bar was a highlight of the dinner. Pre-chilled salad plates, and a wide selection of choices including artichoke hearts and potato salad. The pasta salad on the salad bar had maybe overstayed it's welcome, looked tired. Salad bar was kept very clean. A great feature of the Ore House is that preparation of the entrees are not commenced until you help yourself to the salad bar. You are not rushed. Service was excellent. The Ore House has menu selections that can be enjoyed by all palates along with items for the younger folk....looking forward to our return....The Outfit.

We love the Ore House! The service, the food, the ambience are all the best! Not to mention the huge piece of mud pie for desert. We look forward to going here every time we are in Steamboat.

We, as a family have found this restaurant most gracious with its accommodations. I have always been amazed how such a busy place can have both great service and delicious meals. The prime rib special may have got us in the door but it is the exceptional staff and outstanding entrees that keeps us coming back.
