Park Tavern on Washington Square has long been a vibrant staple and foundation of the North Beach community. Now, under the helm of renowned American chef-partner Jonathan Waxman and fifth-generation San Franciscan James Nicholas, Park Tavern on Washington Square celebrates San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene with a fresh new era. The restaurant has several private dining options available for groups and parties.

As a Bay Area native and one of the pioneers of “California cuisine” Chef Waxman leans into his roots, celebrating the region’s local ingredients showcased in simple, seasonal dishes. Guests can enjoy a menu including Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with avocado, blood oranges, and fresno chili salsa, Cavatelli with dungeness crab, lemon, and parmesan, and Kurobuta Pork Chop Milanese with new potatoes and pepperonata. A few of Waxman’s trademark dishes make an appearance including the JW Kale Salad with anchovy dressing and breadcrumbs, and the famed JW Chicken with salsa verde.

So great to have Park Tavern open again. Will definitely be coming back. Definitely need to lower the volume on the music when it's already a loud environment. My elderly mother couldn't hear the majority of the conversation at the table.

Food was cold! Very disappointing but understand it’s still WIP. Will go back in 6mo to see if things improved.

My girlfriends and I were there for our annual Christmas get-together and we were really looking forward to it. We found the atmosphere very different from the old Park Tavern. It now has an open, bright, kind of 60’s cheery vibe. I liked it better before, with its darker, more intimate feel. The evening, classy vibe it was known for, is gone. It’s probably better for families though, but not so much for the evening, adult crowd looking for some evening drinks and dinner. The food was good. Their roast chicken was great. No sides come with it though. Also, we chalked this up to them still working out the kinks, but they ran out of their fish special which a few of us really wanted to try. They also ran out of bread which was not ok, we were charged $8.00 for 4 slices of French bread, but there were 5 of us, so we asked for another order but they had ran out. I hope this charging for bread stops. It doesn’t give a restaurant a good feel or make it look “exclusive” by charging for bread, especially when none of the other similar restaurants nearby, with better bread, don’t charge for theirs. Drinks were fine, service was excellent!

Food was very good, service is not dialed in yet. Received our food first and had to ask about our cocktails and appetizer. Then got the cocktails and still had to ask about the appetizer. Then I was charged for the appetizer twice.

Was happy to welcome it back but lots of hype about the space and it looks the same. More importantly food was unremarkable. Just didn’t have anything that stood out. Chicken was undercooked which they remade but second round was still undercooked on the larger piece. Service was good though they forgot a glass of wine we ordered. Drinks were good. Hope it’s early kinks they can work out.

What a disappointment ! This was a fun delicious welcoming spot when it was Mooses and the previous Park Tavern . It is a lovely space but a shadow of it’s former self . The bar is fun and the drinks perfect BUT the food is just plain BAD .. undercooked beyond aldente cold pasta / skimpy servings / limited menu .. A new young thinking and talented chef is needed to enhance this refurbished lovely space .. go for the bar and escape !

The service is what comes to mind immediately. The waitstaff knew my first name, which was pleasantly disarming. The food was fantastic. I had the shrimp scampi, and the other dishes were hits - gnocchi and Rock Fish. It’s a perfect dinner place with friends, an occasion, date night - anything. Super approachable menu that delights with classics.

The food was definitely subpar and probably won’t go back again. The staff, however, did try to make our night better by giving us free, desserts and comping a dish.
