James Beard Award-winning Chef Andrew Black makes his way back to Skirvin Hotel to open his newest restaurant concept, Perle Mesta. The restaurant will be his first concept to open since winning a James Beard award as 2023’s Best Chef Southwest and will be located on the first floor of the historic Skirvin Hotel (One Park Avenue, Oklahoma City). Perle Mesta will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner service and the cuisine will reflect Chef Black’s continued exploration of what he calls “possibility cuisine,” a concept he attributes to his style of cooking that explores and embraces the endless possibilities of ingredients, flavors, techniques, and cultural influences. In this context, possibility cuisine involves chefs pushing the boundaries of traditional cooking and experimenting with unconventional ingredients, fusion cuisine, molecular gastronomy, or avant-garde techniques. It may involve a sense of creativity, innovation, and openness to exploring new culinary horizons.

We have enjoyed dinner at Perle Mesta a few times. This review is for brunch. It was a whole different experience. From the moment we walked in the door and hostess pointed to a table. It was not set it was missing a chair. It was difficult to make her understand we had a reservation for 4 people and there were only 3 chairs. It was one gaffe after another. The food was nothing remarkable barely mediocre. Wait until they are done remodeling lobby, then try it for dinner.

This was our second visit and much more disappointing than the first. I will add that this was a Valentine’s Day weekend which may have affected this. The service for starters was bad. REALLY bad. Our server didn’t look busy but we still waited an hour and a half for our food. My drink was incorrect after having to walk to the bar, look at the liquor, and walk back to order. My server said she did not know what liquor there was and there was no menu. The appetizer (caviar) was delicious and the only thing that came over in a timely manner. The food is scored low because although they said we could order a La cart, and not the Valentine’s Day 6 course, the first two items we tried to order were “not available”. The substitutes were ok, but not better than what we wanted. Disappointing experience overall after a high 4 star great dinner the first time around.

We were so looking forward to a beautiful breakfast experience at Chef Andrew Black‘s restaurant. Could not believe it when the waitress told me the quiche I had this morning came from La baguette …..what a shock! I thought the food was supposed to be gourmet, made on site. Nope, they bought it from La Baguette 😓🥺🥺🥺😤

We enjoyed the special 6 course Valentine dinner with wine pairing by Chef Black and it was exceptional. Our waiter made our experience very relaxing and enjoyable. He explained each course in detail and answered every question we had.

A little noisy at first. I think there might have just been a rambunctious crew at the bar. This improved through the meal. A tad on the expensive side, but food costs are high right now, so I get it. We were happy and will plan to return.

Great food and service. Had the duck- it was excellent. Fantastic service - very attentive. Cocktail and mocktail both great.
