   Food was amazing, the shepherds pie was delicious. The server was excellent but it was clear that they were the only one serving and waiting tables and behind the bar so maybe a little stretched.

   Went here for Sunday lunch, maybe a little cramped when busy, but everything else was really good, especially the food. Will definitely be going again!.

   Booked a table for 1730hrs for Sunday evening. Arrived on time and seated for our meal. The Pickering Arms was fairly quiet, certainly not packed. At around 1745hrs our order was takn. There was of us and we both ordered the French onion soup, followed by roast beef dinners with a side of Cauliflower cheese. At around 1830hrs we received our soups, no bread rolls. On starting these we both found them to be lukewarm and asked for returned them. These came back 10 minutes later and were fine. We then sat chatting and drinking awaiting our main courses. At the bar, where I was getting another drink to fill my empty stomach, even the staff asked how long had we been waiting for our meals. At 1930hrs our meals finally arrived. Presentation wise, they looked fine, but once again everything was lukewarm. The Cauliflower cheese offering for £4-50 was quite frankly a joke, about two mouthfuls, small ones at that. We returned these and said to not bother. After 2 hours we really had just had enough. The waitress took them away and came back to apologise and said we wouldn't be charged anything. I would hope this was a one off. The front of house staff were really good, but we won't be returning in a hurry.

   As always the Pickering Arms has a warm friendly atmosphere. Service good food delicious and freshly cooked. Great value for money.

   The food was not up to standard compared to last time we visited. We went for a roast and had the table booked for 5:30 but didn’t receive our food until 45 mins after being there, a lot of the elements of the roast were missing and some of the vegetables were partially raw. We have been for a roast previously in the last month and the roast was expectional, so we were very disappointed this time. The front of house staff however were great, they were very apologetic and accommodating.

   The booking system asked me to review so I will - I wouldn’t normally. To be honest I can’t be bothered to go into detail. But, we booked (asked to pre-order - we did). 55 minute wait for starters - when they arrived 3 of 7 were missing - never to appear. Main courses were OK only, two were hot (burgers) other meals were slightly warm or cold. We were offered (& accepted) a round of drinks on the house as an apology for the absolute cock up. The staff members were polite & apologetic and trying to make things right. The problem was either no manager / supervisor was present or that the ‘manager’ was clearly completely ineffective. Paying attention to other diners around us I don’t think we were alone in our experience - lots of people being made to wait or not having there bookings honoured. It was shambolic - almost laughable really.

   Lovely cosy atmosphere and decor. We had a nice Sunday roast. Reasonable value although the side of cauliflower cheese was on the small side! Will be beach to try more of the menu.

    Nice place but waited quite a while for food today, it was longer than we would have expected eating out frequently.
