We waited almost an hour for our food when the waiter informed us that a glitch had lost our order. The kitchen sends out 3 pieces of deviled eggs and some potato chips for the 6 of us. So we each ate a quarter of an egg- wow thanks. We’ve eaten here a lot and it really is just ok. It’s proximity to campus cannot be beat but the kitchen just seems to get worse

Great location and ambiance, food was pretty good but overpriced in general. Great for visits to Dartmouth or stays at the Hanover Inn. Server was fair/poor, was trying really hard but just did not seem to get it. Told one of our guests NOT to get an option because it was terrible and always sent back. Still ordered and it was fine, actually pretty good (Udon Noodles). Service in general was slow, water and drinks rarely refilled, we had to constantly pour our own wine, bread brought out as an afterthought then when we asked for more, sorry we are out. How can a restaurant be out of bread? Oh well, hoping for better service and experience on our next visit as they have a monopoly on finer dining in the area.

They have dramatically reduced their portions. We have been going there for years and we are one of those crazies that like to document our meals so we can compare the same dish presentation from year to year. The salmon was no longer 1 decent filet; it's now 2 thin little pieces . They then overcooked it because it's so thin. The scallops are now 3 small ones versus the 4 large ones from our photos from 2016-2018. I can go on and on but you get the point. The most hilarious part is that they changed their plates to much more generic smaller plates ( you think you are at the holiday inn) hoping you don't notice the portion reduction + the total lack of presentation. Please... give the diners a little from credit. Shame on you for trying to pull a fast one on your customers at these price points.

Pine is the main restaurant in the Hanover Inn. It's attractive, though a bit dark; and the service and food are excellent. It's very Dartmouth; but if you're not a Dartmouth alum, don't let that deter you. It' still a fine place to eat. The food is sophisticated and varied – not in the least provincial. For example, I've had very good raw oysters; and while I've never found a whole lobster, almost always there's a good dish that contains some lobster. They serve wonderful salads and perhaps the very best hamburger you'll ever find.

The food was definitely better last time I ate here. It's important to note that it was Valentine's Day weekend and also a holiday weekend. The appetizers were fantastic, the cocktails were very good (my tequila negroni was a little heavy on the Campari, so a bit disappointing), and the main course of scallops was overcooked, which was very disappointing. Overall, a good experience; but perhaps an off night?

Management has clearly changed. We are often there for brunch. The new menu plus general confusion is challenging. Come in for a $6 cup of tea, and your choice of strange grains or cold greens for $20. Staff does its best to be accommodating, but there’s something going on that impacts the quality of food and experience.

Great ambiance. Possibly worthwhile for apps and fancy cocktails in a casual but sophisticated atmosphere. The food and cocktails were uneven; some items were very good (braised short rib), some were just okay (french fries, hot buttered rum). The portions were wildly uneven as well, but the main detractor was that the $33 scallop entree included three (3) scallops and a couple (maybe 3 as well?) of ravioli. We are by no means strangers to upscale dining and used to the smaller portions that come with it, but this was in the extreme and tainted the entirety of the meal for us. Service was unremarkable; our server was fine, if she seemed a bit bored. There are other places in the upper valley or nearby that we could have gone for half the price and enjoyed our meal much more. You are definitely paying for atmosphere and location as much or more than the food.

Very nice place! Outstanding food! Very professional personnel. However, it is very expensive because there is no competition in Hanover. You pay $33 for 3 scallops and 3 raviolis on your huge plate where there is a lot of room for adding something like green mix, vegetables, etc.
