Nearly 70 years after its arrival onto the San Diego boutique hotel landscape, Point Loma’s iconic mid-century modern Pearl Hotel has unveiled the latest chapter in its storied history with an ambitiously reimagined restaurant and bar: Ponyboy. The inspiration behind Ponyboy extends beyond its décor and menu. Named after the protagonist of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, the restaurant conveys the spirit of individuality and rebellion in a time when hope and resilience were pivotal to navigating the challenges of a changing world. Guests will sense the nod to cultural iconography as they step into a space that feels familiar and refreshingly new. The ambiance is designed to harken back to a bygone era when traditional American comfort foods and elaborate dinner parties were both fashionable and fun.     Absolutely fantastic experience - this place is such a gem. From the food and drinks to the ambiance and staff, the small but beautiful touches, I can’t say enough good things.

    Unique dining experience, loved every minute, with excellent cocktails, excellent wine, excellent service! Food was perfect in portion size, very fresh and tasted wonderful.

    Ponyboy is a stylish restaurant located inside the Pearl Hotel, a mid-century modern gem designed by San Diego modernist architect Robert Platt in 1959. As a lover of design, I was drawn to the restaurant primarily because of its unique architecture. Food wise, I enjoyed the Vegetable Tangine - a tasty vegan dish with couscous, grilled vegetables, chickpeas, Moroccan spices, topped with toasted almonds, very good! I also liked the deviled eggs, although I was expecting them to be more savory than sweet. Not a fan of the Caesar-influenced Brussel Sprouts, too crunchy. Ended with the mule float, which was ginger beer with vanilla ice cream. I appreciate interesting desserts such as this, but it could be improved with higher quality ice cream and it needs a touch of citrus (lime?) added to the ginger beer to balance out the sweetness. Overall, an enjoyable experience and I love the thoughtful repurposing of this historic piece of architecture!

    it was such a cozy experience. we sat pool side, just across the screen. view was great, ambiance was implacable and service was super attentive.

    Will 100% go back, service, quality amazing and the food was exceptional Love the 70’s retro look and pool side seating The good, the bad and the ugly was playing on a screen above the pool Everything about this restaurant was great Staff, waiters and manager go out of their way to make you feel comfortable

    We had such fun. A truly unique and stylish atmosphere with a major fun factor. That was what compelled us to make a reservation. But man, the food was fantastic. Didn’t know what to expect but everything we ate, particularly the fondue for two, was delicious and innovative. Highly recommended!

    The food was excellent. We loved the cocktails, oysters, bone marrow, ceviche and chicken. Cocktails were delicious and they actually had blue cheese stuffed olives for my friend martini. The service was excellent and attentive. I will definitely come back.

    Holly was our server and she was excellent! She seemed to really love what she was doing and she took great care of us! We may be back to stay at the Pearl next time too.

    Ponyboy is one of the best newer venues and dining experiences I’ve come to have in San Diego. Would HIGHLY rec coming for any special event or just a night out!
