The renowned art of dry aging finally arrives in San Mateo, as our new dry aging window is now completed. We are proud to be the only restaurant on the Peninsula (In between San Francisco & San Jose) to have an in-house dry aging facility. Our new menu featuring these marvelous cuts of beef is now available.
To accompany your steak, our Wine List celebrates the acclaimed wines of Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, France and Italy. In addition to our steak and chop offerings, our Chef provides for a daily selection of fresh fish and seafood.

Despite very good food service from our waiter, the evening was ruined because a glass of Cabernet was served with well over a tablespoon of sediment. Unfortunately, the sediment was not visible until the final sip, so some was swallowed, some was deposited into a tissue, and most was left in the glass in plain view. Management condescendingly "explained" that sediment collects in wines. We contend that it is management's responsibility to ensure that sediment is removed before serving any wine. After raised voices and exchanged unpleasant remarks, management removed the cost of 1.5 glasses of wine. Evening ruined.

We were looking for a steak house and found Porterhouse. What a find, fantastic food, nice ambiance, attentive waitstaff, great drinks, great ue whole nine. I will definitely be going back and want to say it is worth a try.

The food was great and Armando’s service was superb. It was a get together with a couple of my friends after years. Armando’s service and attentiveness was amazing and so were the drinks and fillet mignons.

The food was good - pricey. So them having Trump on the wide screen TV that features prominently to all diners, ruined my dinner. This was “in my face.” Did Porterhouse do that on purpose? They should have had a blackout and a huge TV lowers the vibe anyway. It wrecked what would have otherwise been a nice dining experience. Bad idea. Bad.

The food and service were excellent. When it comes to steak, this is the best place to go. The steak is cooked to perfection and savory. Another great bday celebration for my husband.

Having dinner at Poterhouse is always a special treat! We enjoyed our meals tremendously. The service was great and everything about our experience was first class. Porterhouse is highly recommended!

I'd known about this Third Avenue restaurant in San Mateo for years but only recently had the chance to try it after their move. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and I enjoyed the classic oldies music, which created a pleasant ambiance. However, the steak itself fell short of expectations. I ordered the cowboy steak, and at $67, I expected a higher quality cut. The steak was thinner than I'd prefer (I'd guess less than an inch thick), undercooked for my taste, and unfortunately, heavily over-peppered in the kitchen. The excessive pepper masked any natural flavor the steak might have had. Overall, I felt the price was too high for the quality of the steak. While I appreciated the friendly service and atmosphere, the subpar steak experience means I likely won't be returning. I hope the restaurant takes note of this feedback and considers adjusting their steak preparation and pricing." Key improvements and considerations for your review.

Excellent food and service especially considering it’s a holiday weekend and everywhere is booked. Our waiter was fantastic remembering everything and making suggestions.
