A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

Attentive and friendly service. Food was authentic French food. They weren’t trying so hard as some other French restaurants do. It was hard to decide what to order. Desert menu didn’t disappoint with crepe Suzette and pot au chocolat. We will be back!

For the price, not worth it. Tiny table, got sat directly below a heater that blasted at me the whole time, appetizer was good, but meal was bland and not cooked to the right temperature (asked for medium rare, got barely medium well, almost fully well). Felt like I was dining on a cruise ship where the tables were so tight you couldn’t even stand up all the way without knocking your neighboring table’s drinks over. Overall for the price there are so many better places in Providence which is so sad because the last time we went a year ago, it was great. Don’t think we’ll be returning anytime soon.

What a great way to spend the Winter Solstice. It’s 20 degrees out and we’re at Pot au Feu having a piping hot bowl of the best Onion Soup you can find in New England. Wonderful melted gruyere cheese over a perfectly sized French bread crouton with onions and a tasty steaming broth. Of course, we had our usual Pot du Chocolat for desert with coffee. Our waitress Antigone guided us through a great meal with a bottle of nouveau Beaujolais.

Delicious appetizers. Onion soup is one of the best we’ve had. Entrees much to be desired. Super large plates and not truly reflective of french cuisine. Overall OK.
