Inspiration for Primo comes from the love for food, ancient spirits, local crafts and rustic cooking. Trying to recreate in a small outdoor space under a beautiful tree, the essence from original Playa del Carmen and bring an authentic Mexican food where everything is cooked with wood fire, underground oven, comales and grill, as has been done traditionally in most Mexican small towns for centuries. Primo means cousin in spanish, as a common slogan in Mexico we say Primo to refer to really close friends, the ones that may be closer than family. Our intention with this name is that guests feel the confort of gathering in a place that will taste and feel like home as we do. We have developed the interior design with locally made tzalam wood furniture, bejuco lamps and a chukum finish for the walls. We pride ourselves of using local and sustainable suppliers for most of our ingredients.

Located in Playa del Carmen popular 10th Avenue and 14th Street, Primo offers a delightful view of the strip where everything is about to happen, it is fun to get to see so many different characters that conforms our city´s culture and folklore, sometimes is nice and quiet but most of the days is a really busy street that will even make you laugh and have a great time besides having the best dinner in town, because you know… this is Mexico!

                                                                                                                            Everything was great. Food and service was lovely. The one thing is that they need seats with backs as an option. I know it’s picky but this is an issue for some people.

De primero, el tuétano, espectacular; coliflor rostizada muy rica; finalmente, pork belly, muy bueno aunque los otros dos eran superiores. Los cócteles, un margarita ahumado y otro de mezcal, aperol y mango, sobresalientes. No es barato pero la calidad merece la pena. Muy buen restaurante, un mexicano diferente. Enhorabuena!

                                                                                                                            Nous avons passé une bonne soirée avec des amis. La qualité de la nourriture était au rendez-vous, tout était savoureux et bien présenté. Cependant, le service était un peu long. J’ai dû demander plusieurs fois la carte des boissons, et le serveur ne passait pas régulièrement pour vérifier si nous avions besoin de quelque chose. C’est dommage, car avec un service plus attentif, l’expérience aurait été parfaite.
