Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: If Quixote feels like a house of worship, it’s no accident. The cavernous restaurant was built from a deconstructed Mexican church, as hinted at by its Santa Maria candles and pulpit-turned-bar. Chef José Cepeda serves riffs on his family favorites spotlighting heirloom grains, masa, and his specialty, moles.

Maybe I was over hyped? Not the experience I expected. Especially for the price tag

Waaay too noisy, chaotic, and crowded. Some of the dishes were very good; some were meh. Such a popular hot spot that I don’t feel they try very hard anymore.

Food was alright, some dishes were good others were not. The toughest part of the night was inattentive service and no mention of a birthday, which was noted in the reservation. It wasn’t mentioned by the host or the server. Overall very lackluster but the ambiance was stunning. Id recommend grabbing some guac, a couple glasses of wine and then moving on to somewhere else for dinner.

Service was very slow; our waitress in break and we were given another person but noticed many tables being unattended to. Overall, food was good and drinks were good.

Quixote is truly a gem for anyone seeking authentic Oaxacan cuisine with a gourmet twist. The restaurant beautifully showcases the rich flavors and traditions of Oaxacan cooking while elevating the dishes with creative presentations and high-quality ingredients.

Cool place! They were completely full but able to accommodate an extra couple for our reservation. The service was friendly and efficient despite the place being packed. Our second time visiting. The food and drinks are pretty unique, I love the horchata cocktail, crab donut and squash blossom.

first time at both the restaurant and the hotel and it, in one word is: CHAOS. from start to finish the entire experience is a mess. takes thirty minutes to get someone to answer the main hotel phone number and those who answer are ill-informed about the restaurants. we arrived one hour before our reservation to be sure to get valet parking which we were told on the phone gets full. the rest is street parking in an overcrowded neighborhood. best option is to uber. after trying street parking, we got in the valet line only to be turned away after waiting - they need a better system. hoping to have a drink in the massively holiday themed lobby bar, chaos once again. hard to distinguish actual patrons from tourists popping in to have a look. it's too small for its current set up and there is no logical flow of traffic nor anyone working to help facilitate. we went to Quixote early since there was nowhere to sit in the lobby and after about 10 minutes, were able to sit. our waitress was nice but made it her mission to rush us. it seems you are expected to order food the minute your first cocktail hits the table. that's not how we do it. we had only been 10 min into our 90 min reservation when she told us that they like to get the tables turned over every 90 minutes. she interrupted our conversation several times to this end. the drinks were good. limited menu with mediocre food. i found both the guac too spicy as well as the chicken tacos of which i ate very little. loud, bad acoustics. would maybe give it another try but would take a strong reason to get me there. after all the rushing, we walked out 90 minutes later with SEVERAL empty tables available. tried to peak in the bowling alley and the diner which are all much smaller than pictured on the website/instagram. not enough restrooms. cannot imagine staying in that hotel and walking through that mess on a weekend. bigger cities have great hotels that offer many similar bar options - take a lesson

We were able to snag a last minute reservation and the food and drinks were fantastic. The guac, lentil dip, chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, and tuna donut were literally incredible. My only critique was that our waiter was very harsh in suggesting everything was “for the table” even when my boyfriend has a shellfish allergy and one of our guests at the end of the table wanted shrimp for their own personal dish. He also, when asking for a dietary substitution said, “but those ingredients are really good on the dish” instead of just saying okay or you got it. Other than the interesting service from our server, the restaurant is amazing and we will definitely be back for the delicious food.
