   Went with high expectations, as I should with the price range of this place. Order the paper plane cocktail. The bartender swore he knew how to do, but it was served with one of the main ingredient missing. The server, who was nice. Served it with a sheepish look on his face like he was embarrassed. I sent it back with explicit instructions of what was missing and it came back OK. Appetizers were OK, the blue cheese chips were good for bar food, but disappointing for a higher place. The chips looked like Lays potato chips out of a bag, or an uncanny reproduction thereof, with blue cheese on top. Blue cheese was good though. The steak, which I ordered Pittsburgh style, seared on the outside, rare inside, was served thoroughly charred on one side, and lightly cooked on the other. I told the waiter and he talked to the kitchen. They simply said that’s how the grill cooks on high heat setting as if they had no control - a runaway grill! . Seems to be a high-end steakhouse should know how to use their equipment to properly cook a steak. No offer of apology or we will take it back and recook. With the bill of over $300 for two people that would have been my minimum expectation. I ate part of it anyway, but decided to take the rest of it home. On the way to my car, I ran into a homeless person who needed food, so I gave him my leftovers instead. He looked like he needed it. As I got to the car, though, I had some thoughts of what would he think when he opened it and found the charred remains of my dinner inside. This was actually a genuine thought I had, which, to me, had a little bit of irony, but given the bill should never happened. As much as I would like to recommend this place, I simply can’t. Not for any price. A steakhouse should know how to cook steak.

   We were lucky to have dinner with Melissa at the bar. The best service & cocktails. Amazing food, too. We look forward to returning.

   Ray's in the City is always a go-to when traveling to Atlanta. The food, service and wine selection are always exceptional.

   Second time coming when in Atlanta. Never disappoints. Our server Chris was phenomenal You have to try the calamari and shrimp appetizer.

   We were celebrating my son’s graduation from UGA, Jade was our server. She was attentive and knowledgeable on the menu items. Harriette also stopped by our table with well wishes. We will be back!

   Our waiter was amazing and really knowledgeable. He was a shorter Spanish guy. He had all the recommendations and knowledge about the dishes. Great guy great food great experience

   I have been to Ray’s on the River (many times), and Ray’s at Killer Creek once. Both were excellent. Ray’s in the City was challenging. First, for an older couple, parking is a nightmare (like everywhere downtown without valet). We finally used Hotel Indigo valet for $30. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. We had great cocktails. The starter that was called Goat Cheese Fritter had zero goat cheese inside. It was like eating a cheddar grilled cheese in fritter form. Meh…my husband had a grilled red snapper that was excellent. I ordered an 8oz filet. 90% sure it was a strip steak but it was well cooked so I ate it as we were pressed for time. An excellent dessert (butter cake) was delicious. Chris, our waiter was great. So all that being said , if you want to go to a Ray’s… go to the River!
