At Rec Pier Chop House, Chef Andrew Carmellini brings his soulful, urban Italian cooking to an American landmark by specializing in prime steaks and chops. The menu features locally-sourced ingredients, sustainable seafood, farm-raised organic poultry, and some of the country’s best beef from James River, Virginia and Donnely Ranch, Nebraska along with the irresistible pastas that Carmellini is best known for. This Italian chophouse combines the flavor and feeling of a countryside rosticceria with a modern-day steakhouse experience in Baltimore’s Fell’s Point.

I’m assuming that the Rec Pier Chop House is having issues with staffing levels. While the food was excellent, there were some unusual lapses with the service. My wife and I arrived about 8 minutes prior to our reservation time and the hostess asked us to wait in the lounge instead of seating us (the restaurant was about 40% full at that time). 10 minutes AFTER our reservation time, I circled back to the hostess and asked to be seated. She accommodated the request, but didn’t seem to think about seating us if I did not ask. Once seated, the waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. The manager stopped by the table a couple of time to help fill water glasses and offer assistance to the wait staff. There were usually long gaps between visits by the waitress to take appetizer orders, entre orders, intermediate check ins, dessert orders and the dreaded long wait period to return with the final bill to sign after paying via credit card. I’m also still unsure if we were scammed by the valet. Is validated parking for the restaurant really $20? The valet said it was $45 without validation and $20 with validation. I still tipped the valet on top of the fee, but I would suggest posting signage outside to spell out the valet charge for restaurant patrons.

Ok well it started off that we had reservations @ 8:45 were pointed to another area to sit for approx an hour to be seated at 9:50. The roses that I paid $140.00 for were not at the table waiting. Then some of the pre fix items on the menu were not available ( I couldn’t even get a salad ). Then when I pointed out that I had purchased the flower package for valentine’s day the waiter brought flowers that like they were purchased from Safeway. Which are already dead. To some this experience up I’ve been here before and the experience was much better. To say the lease we were very disappointed this time

My boyfriend and I enjoy it a lot. Despite living an hour away, it was worth the drive and the experience. There was nothing we didn't like about it and we will definitely return.

Food was outstanding. Service was good. I requested recognition for a birthday and no one shared that with our waiter (who otherwise provided great service) so that was a little disappointing. Menu options are limited, but everyone enjoyed their food. I will return, just not specifically to celebrate a special occasion.

Food, drinks, and service were great! Went during what seemed to be the busiest dinner time on New Year’s Eve and the service was still quick and friendly. The whiskey lounge in the far back of the first floor was a great spot to relax before and after dinner. We will definitely go back again!

I will preface that this is a fine establishment and we have dined here quite a bit. However, our New Year’s Eve experience was lackluster at best. The waiter was pleasant but service was something else. My wife’s steak knife did not appear before the entree was served, entrees(steak) came out luke warm and he forgot to order our entree sides and offered no apologies. Sides eventually came out halfway through our meal so definitely dampened the mood. That said, still a good restaurant with nice ambiance.
