Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Jennifer Jasinski

From the OpenTable editors: Rioja's Jennifer Jasinski is a trailblazer, being the first chef from Denver to win a James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest in 2013, along with many other accolades. The Larimer Square restaurant recently celebrated two decades, and the open kitchen still fires out rustic Mediterranean fare, from fresh handmade pasta to smoky grilled octopus.

Service was excellent but my Black/White Tagliettel was lacking the seafood that was supposed to be part of the dish. My cappuccino was served in plastic. Kind of a turn off. The desert was the best part. We’ve been dining at Rioja for 20 years were a little disappointed. Will be back though.

Absolutely delicious food and the menu was diverse and exciting. We had the squash soup for an appetizer (love!!!), and I had the artichoke tortelloni (to die for) and my husband had the black and white tagliatelle. Drinks and wine were excellent. Desserts are a MUST! Recommend the beignets and the cannoli. The ambience was very nice - we actually felt a bit underdressed! Good service too.

We hadn’t been to Rioja in several years and had a lovely time. The service is exceptional and well timed. Drinks were lovely. Bread selection was enjoyable. The artichoke tortelloni was spectacular. The octopus was the biggest disappointment but everything else was good. We had the ice cream and sorbet selection for dessert. Loved the lemon and passion fruit. Didn’t think the chocolate strawberry was amazing but it was all served on a thin cookie which was delicious. Our server was great, seating comfortable, restaurant wasn’t overly loud and all in all a nice experience.

Dinner before theater at DCPA.. they called me to let me know we could don't in a few minutes earlier than my existing reservation so as not to have to rush. I thought that was really lovely. The food was terrific.
