Review summary

Roast offers a quintessential English dining experience, perfectly located above Borough Market. With "delicious food from the freshest of ingredients," it's a haven for those seeking a refined ambiance. While service can be hit or miss, "excellent breakfast choices" and a "fantastic Sunday roast" keep patrons coming back.

I booked this on recommendation for my husbands birthday. We arrived got told to wait in a hallway for 20 mins… finally got a table and ordered. Oysters gritty bitty and not great. I’ve had better at the beach. Main was ok we had to ask for our sides 3 times. They got dumped on the table. The place was over booked and crowded. Deserts got dumped on the table., we ordered coffees only got 3 when we asked for 4. Then had to wait over 40 mins once’s asked for the bill. Service charge was taken off and for £400 I would expect better service and courtesy would not go back and would not recommend

Lovely food can not fault, however the staff and service were not great. Not one person smiled or had a conversation!! 8 of us were crammed on a small table

Lovely restaurant. Service was ok. We had the Turkey Roast. It was nice, however only two small roast potatos & Brussel Sprouts were very uncooked. Unfortunately we were sat in front of the food service area which as you can imagine we had a lot of people passing by.

I went here a few years ago and had a pleasant lunch but sadly now it’s an awful overpriced tourist trap with terrible service. We were constantly and unapologetically bumped and leaned over by waiters, as well as fellow diners who were regularly and obtrusively pointing multiple video cameras / go pros at us for their entire meal. Food itself was ok, but not better than you can get in any of the traditional pubs around the area. Terrible ambiance for a place that costs £100 per head minimum. Chairs also had disconcerting weird goo on the legs, and toilet sinks were blocked with wet tissue. Strongly suggest avoiding and going to nearby Woolpack for a much nicer and less expensive dining experience. Disappointing and won’t be returning.

Lovely restaurant, service was very slow. On arrival no one asked to take our coats, was seated for around 15 mins without being asked for a drink, Had to ask for the drinks menu ourselves. Waitress was really nice when we were eventually served, starters came out before drinks. Food was served warm not hot. Wasn’t offered water the whole time we were there. Had to ask for the bill after quite a while as no one came over to the table for Atleast 25 mins, then had to ask for the card machine. Table booked for 7pm and left at 10pm mainly because we were waiting. Food is decent, could be served hotter. Staff were nice enough but for what you’re paying it weren’t really worth it.

The food was good (not amazing) but the decor was super festive and our waiter was friendly. Only really disappointing aspect was the response from the hostess station on our arrival. We were greeted with annoyed expressions, and they didn’t even say hello. It was extremely awkward and did not set the tone for a fun festive visit, sadly.

Great food and atmosphere Only issue was we waited to order drinks and food after 30 minutes of sitting there. Once we ordered the drinks and food it came out quite promptly. Had to wait a while to ask for the bill as it looked short staffed However all staff were very friendly and welcoming

Food and service very good. Christmas decorations lovely. However it was packed and very loud. I have used this restaurant several times this year and feel that too many extra tables have been added and therefore making it a little uncomfortable
