Robin is a contemporary Japanese restaurant in Menlo Park focused on providing a sustainable omakase experience. Chef/owner Adam Tortosa (1760, LA's Ink) worked in LA under master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi, but here he's putting his own spin on the fish he prepares. Other reasons to visit: the stylish interior, hip hop soundtrack, and pretty ceramics made by local craftsmen.

I was really looking forward to dining here, especially after a great experience at their San Francisco location. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of expectations. Despite reserving seats at the sushi bar, my friend and I were seated at a corner dining table upon arrival because they had overbooked—an unacceptable start, especially since there were open seats when we arrived.
We opted for the $170 omakase, but the experience was underwhelming from the start. The first few dishes were unimpressive, with fish that lacked freshness, poorly masked by excessive searing and fruity toppings. To make matters worse, we were served uni that was supposed to be from Hokkaido but clearly was not. As the meal progressed, the quality continued to decline. The final straw was a mushy white fish dish that was so unpleasant I couldn’t even swallow it, which led us to end the meal early, leaving five courses untouched.
On top of that, they initially charged us the full $170 per person, despite agreeing to lower the cost to $120 due to our dissatisfaction. The final bill was riddled with errors, totaling $600 instead of the adjusted amount, requiring yet another correction.
Overall, this was a deeply disappointing experience—nothing like the quality and professionalism we enjoyed in San Francisco. I won’t be returning.

It was underwhelming. Not worth the hype. Plus, the maitre’d was underdressed and wearing a crappy blue polo shirt.
