About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Charming
Nominated by Food and Wine Magazine as best chef southwest and 4 time winner of the Houston Iron Fork competition, Roost is slowly standing in a class of its own. With accolades like winner of the Food Networks Beat Bobby Flay and competing on Guy's Grocery Games, local Chef Kevin Naderi loves developing global flavors and serving his hometown.
Roost’s 50-seat space is cozy and unpretentious, amid walls paneled with old shutters and Edison-like light fixtures. Roost’s rustic and diverse menu is revised every five weeks, inspired by local availability of farm-fresh seasonal ingredients and flavors of the world, including the American South, Asia, and from the Middle East, taking advantage of Chef Naderi’s Persian heritage.
With over 13 years of serving Houston, we are proud to be a delicious option for our incredible city, and we truly looking forward to giving you a casual- fine dining experience.

The food isn’t as good as it used to be, the pastor gator tostada was really bad and the burger was under. Probably will not visit again.

Roost was an amazing dining experience. It's a small place, but it didn't get loud. The service was exceptional as was the food. We loved everything we ordered. We can't wait to come back and bring all of our friends and family.

My wife and I have eaten here many times, and it’s always been excellent. Except last night. The quality of food has markedly declined. The sashimi/watermelon/onion/feta dish was just bad. It was served on a huge wedge of watermelon, with little attention to the subtlety of flavors. I got the catch of the day served on potatoes and curried lentils. It get like someone just threw ingredients together blindly. My wife’s steak was cooked fine but was very tough—just a poor quality of meat. Although our waitress was nice, she clearly had little experience with dining of this level. She really didn’t know much about the food at all. We spent nearly $200 for two people, but this was wasn’t close to that level of experience. Poor value, forgettable food, and just adequate service.

Never ever disappoints. We brought friends. They were blown away as all other friends we bring there. The octopus was perfect. My man said the beef short rib was fantastic. And you know that cauliflower was perfection!!

We left within minutes of being seated due to the excessive noise levels. I entered already aggravated by the lack of parking, especially since I am handicapped and there is no provision for handicapped parking. I wa forced to park 3 blocks away and walked in the rain to enter the restaurant. I found enough unacceptable factors to avoid staying. I will not return and cannot recommend the place. I did speak to an employee upon leaving.

The food was really tasty without being overly complicated. The bread service (a giant pretzel) and cauliflower were our favorite. Our server was also super attentive and made us feel immediately welcome!

Thought we would try some place new, and sometimes you choose wrong. Service was poor, wine was 2 days old and tasted like it. Short ribs, polenta was barely warm, and it tasted like BBQ sauce had been poured over it. Squid my wife ordered was a chewy. Atmosphere is like a diner. Cannot recommend, and won’t be back.
