   There were four of us and we had booked a table even though the pub wasn’t that busy. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Food arrived in a timely manner and portions were large. My husband and I did not enjoy our food, the beef patty of the hamburger had a smell that wasn’t very pleasant. The onion rings were delicious but heavy. Our adult kids though loved their lasagna and fish& chips. The hummus starter was a7/10. We all loved their lasagna music playing!!

   Lovely little pub, personable staff, friendly clientele, landmark historical. But the kitchen woefully bad. Went for Xmas dinner, and a mountain of soggy and hard shelled bland. The worst pub meal that we’ve ever had. And uniquely so in not redeeming sprout to build on. The chef is simply not and shouldn’t be allowed.

   We had a lovely Christmas meal at the Royal Oak. Food was on time and staff were very nice. My only issue was the price of the meal but I understand that it is Christmas and everyone ups their prices.

   We are immensely grateful to the staff for their service on Christmas Day. However, the food left us underwhelmed. Understandably, it’s a busy time of year, but the restaurant felt understaffed, and the food arrived lukewarm. The starter, described as “Oyster, Flat and Button mushrooms,” only featured button mushrooms. The “Stilton, fruitcake, and honey” lacked any discernible Stilton cheese—it was allegedly within the cake, which seemed unlikely and felt at odds with Yorkshire tradition. Lastly, the Christmas pudding, which was advertised as being served with brandy butter ice cream, arrived with custard instead. While these issues didn’t dampen our festive spirits, we couldn’t help but feel somewhat disappointed.

   We were able to sit earlier which was good. The service was quick. Nice surroundings, little oldie worldie pub. The food was a let down . At £18.95 for a sharing platter , the food was all microwaved , so reheated. The steak was ok but the wedges were awful , too much batter on the onion rings. That was over £18 too. Husband had sausage and mash, sausages the exact same you get in a chip shop ! Quite a let down to be honest

   Recommend staff not smoking next to open windows where customers are eating. When seating customers it would be good to tell them there was a limited menu rather than waiting for them to order to be told you can only have a couple of things.

   Toilets and corridors never seen a duster let alone a hoover. Food very average and chairs not comfy.
