   Nice restaurant but same issues with Newport restaurants located near the water down town - they all tend to be very expensive but the food isn't that great. Good service and good manager. Steak Frites were good but the rest of the meal missed.

   Scales & Shells in Newport RI has been one of our favorite restaurants for 20+ years. Recently, it changed ownership so we tried it out again and loved it. The Fried Calamari appetizer was every bit as good as it was in the past and the Linguini (fresh pasta) with Manila Clams was Excellent. Our server, Loretta, was very attentive and personable. We will definitely be back again.

   Miss the old ownership. Portions were much larger and place had personality. Not worth the money! Disappointed….

   I took my daughters out to dinner and wanted to try a new restaurant as we live in Newport. Since we all love seafood, I thought this would be a good spot and it was. From the time we walked in the door, we had a good experience. We had a friendly and attentive server who was also the bartender and we liked the eclectic menu. For appetizers we sampled the Burrata and Spanish Octopus. Both were delicious. While all our entrees were good, the grilled lobster special I ordered was mouthwatering and luscious. Best I have ever had. The white Bordeaux wine I had was as good as it was reasonably priced. We finished off the meals with dessert. My chocolate custard and pistachio gelato was silky. I will definitely be back.

   Good food but small portions and felt rushed by waitstaff to get in and out. The waiter kept stopping by rushing us to order and clear plates. Total time for dinner was 45mins. Not going back anytime soon.

   We were seated very near the front door and every time the door opened a blast of cold air would come in. I’m not sure what they can do to prevent that, but it definitely did take away from our dining experience.  I had the swordfish which was extremely yummy, however, the olives in the side dish really overpowered the rest of the ingredients. They should really put less olives in or maybe just have them on the side. My daughter really enjoyed the cod.
