We were seated initially on the first floor, but it was quite cold, however the staff was very accommodating and we were moved to a table upstairs. I ordered a clam chowder which was delicious. As main course, I ordered a hamburger, which mediocre. It came to the table somewhat cold, and it tasted plain. The fries were just barely ok, there was nothing special about it, and it came with only a side of ketchup. I felt like this was a diner hamburger, not a $22 dollars one at a good restaurant. I think that overall my experience was mediocre.

Wonderful staff! Seated in a timely manner, wonderful wait staff, and the value of brunch was wonderful. Food wasn’t the warmest once arrived at our table

Was super excited to try this place for brunch. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant which could be amazing. The menu online was what made me try this place, however when we got there two out of the four menus had the one posted and two had a different, less appealing menu. The current menu has fewer options and the one I chose they ran out of the potato cakes. Drinks were fine but took a very lengthy time to receive. The restaurant was not full so it was puzzling, entrees took even longer. Presentation was beautiful, by then though we were kind of done with the place. Keeping the more appealing menu and faster service would have helped our experience. Probably will not return.

Scholar is one of my top three restaurants in Grand Rapids. It truly hits all the categories you want in a nice dinner downtown. Atmosphere and decor is beautiful and moody. Food is INCREDIBLE!! Cannot recommend the Bison Short Ribs if they're still on the menu when you go. Delish cocktails and the staff is kind and. charming. Scholar is always one of my first places to recommend to friends who want a night out. The menu is pricey, for sure, but you're absolutely getting what you pay for! Worth every dollar imo.

Took my wife for her birthday and it was such a cool experience. The basement had a intimate/speakeasy vibe that we loved. We will be back for sure.

Enjoyable evening. Small but tasty menu. Cobb salad, tomato/squash bisque soup great! Deviled eggs were very delicious as well as the Salisbury steak. Drinks were very good as well!

The salsbury steak was incredibly dry and lacked flavor. Some pretty big red flags for a $30 dish. The meatball appetizer also lacked flavor. Overall, I was disappointed in the food. The service, however, was incredlble. We were in the study area and had the bartender as our server and he was truly great and made our experience.

The restaurant was nice, ambience was good but the food was subpar. My medium filet was way over done. The Shrimp cocktail was average with the sauce was basically ketchup with no other flavor. My wife clams were overcooked to the point of shrinkage like George Costanza’s anatomy. They were as if the clams were frozen and reheated with some extreme salty sauce thrown on top. Had a glass of a French red blend and it was sour and lack of any body. The only saving grace here was that my daughter mentioned her lamb was decent. Menu is quite limited. Not looking for a giant menu like Cheesecake Factory but if you can count all the items on your fingers then it’s limited. The server was polite and attentive. FoodieFromCali
