We were early and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar which was a very nice experience. We had looked and the menu while sitting at the bar and there were so many choices. Our server, Heather told us about the days specials and confirmed the fish in the pasta dish we were ordering included the fish of the day and fresh shell fish. I asked if the plates could be split in the kitchen and she said she would ask…when our salad was served, she smiled and said this will make you happy…the Caesar salad was delicious, the lettuce very crisp. Our water glass was never empty and Heather kept our wine glasses nicely topped off. The linguine with red sauce and fresh fish and capers had just the right amount of heat…what a delicious meal! We were celebrating our anniversary and Heather fought us a delicious treat with a candle in it! We had such a pleasant evening, it was everything we wanted it to be and more! Thank you Scoma’s and Heather!

Scoma’s is the standard by which all Bay Area seafood houses are measured. As good and unpretentious now as it was 45 years ago when I had my first bowl of seafood stew there. Sit at the bar with the locals or a table with the tourists and birthday parties. The portions are more than adequate. The sour dough bread is worth the extra calories. The prices are more than fair without the too common extra charges. The wait staff are old school and solid. The only warning is that the dress code is not really “smart casual.” Just casual, if you care.

When we arrived for our reservation we were asked to wait a little while. We sat at the bar and had a glass of wine. The service and atmosphere was quite good. When our table was ready we were escorted to our table. The service and attention we received (and have received before) makes the dining experience quite pleasing. The meal was delicious and we were quite satisfied. We will dine here again.

Haven’t been here in 30 years. I feel foolish about this. Fantastic seafood in a classic old school way with modern touches. Perfectly prepared seafood in a heavenly historic old location surrounded by the REAL waterfront. I’m going to want to go there for lunch often. The bar is fantastic too. Young hip San Franciscans should rediscover this great authentic place, I feel a fool for ignoring for so long. It’s really apart from the touristy fisherman’s wharf and is on its own little world down a hard to find pier. Drive across a little bridge where I found unpretentious valet parking around the back of the restaurant. It’s fun!

Overall a good experience. The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. We had a couple of hiccups, however. One, we were hoping to snag a bottle of the famous Egg Nog, but were told they had sold out that day. Second, we were reseated after eating our appetizers. We were assigned a different server who was unaware whether we had received the appetizers we ordered (which we had) and it delayed service of our entrees. Finally, we were given a complimentary extra appetizer, a nice gesture, but would have preferred a discount or the choice of the complimentary item.

I wish prices weren't so high, but I know it's not cheap to run an ocean to table operation like theirs. Everything was perfect and the wait staff super attentive. Absolutely polished servings and offerings. I can't wait to go back!
