Standing high above the city on the 10th floor of the City Club Apartments, at 309 Vine Street; resurrected from the history that has stood here before our time, Shires' Rooftop is inspired by the first amusement resort in this part of the country, Shires' Garden. Though the original Shires' Gardens burned to the ground, "in a most picturesque fire," the legacy that was left behind is everlasting and an integral part of the Queen City's history. The creation of the Matinee Performance, the regal guests Shires' hosted, an unsolved murder and other noteworthy events that took place at the original Shires' Gardens, are an inspiration to our program that we look forward to sharing with you.

Unfortunately, as much as I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, New Year’s Eve was awful! Even though they had a pre-planned menu and we had to pay ahead of time, they ran out of almost everything by our reservation time. The service was poor. The waitstaff was overwhelmed and I think our server was crying because other patrons were so upset about them being out of food. They even ran out of all desserts. That’s right. We couldn’t even have the dessert from the pre-paid, pre-planned menu. Even more of a disappointment was that there was absolutely no ringing in of the new year. A football game played on tv. There was no announcement and no formal New Year celebration.

This place could be really nice, as it has a great ambiance and drinks. DO NOT go here for a pre-fixed menu on a holiday. We made reservations for NYE as the marketed menu looked great. The advertisement was nothing but a smoke show. The restaurant was not prepared with enough food and took more reservations than they could accommodate. We were seated an hour after our reservation time and then we were left with all of the decent food choices already gone. All the red meat options were gone and literally all of the dessert options were gone. So we ended up spending $240 for overcooked and cold fish and some artichoke dip. Left extremely disappointed. The worst dining experience we’ve had in Cincinnati.

Food was satisfactory for brunch; prices seemed to align with other restaurant prices for comparable items. Side of fries was $10...not a good value. Service was good. We were practically the only ones in the restaurant prior to a Bengals game...thought was odd even though not located at the Banks or super close to Paycor.

Service was very good. We had a reservation and they were ready for us. It was the night after Christmas and pretty slow. Our server took the drink orders fairly quickly. We ordered the fried green tomatoes which were crunchy, tangy and came with a delicious sauce on the plate. Highly recommend. Son got the mushroom pasta which could easily feed three people. He loved it. Husband got the muscles and shrimp which was delectable, especially the muscles. Very sweet and tender. Daughter and I enjoyed the pork chop with arugula and potatoes. Enough for both of us. Our server talked us into beignets for dessert which were absolutely delicious. Overall a lovely evening. I liked it better in the summer when the outside terrace and excellent view can be enjoyed, but a very cozy Holiday vibe could be felt.

The bartender was nice but dressed as she did not work in a upscale cocktail bar. Scratched off nail polish, dirty sweater and did not know how to make the cocktails she was serving. All 4 of our cocktails were horrible to be honest. We loved the vibe inside but I'd say to just hire more knowledgeable staff to match the quality of cocktails they advertise to sell.

I booked your restaurant for Christmas Eve. We had never been and I was really excited for a downtown view and good food. The service was slow. And the food, was good but not great. I think this seems like a good place for drinks and appetizers. We had the mussels, which were good. The chorizo is a bit much. We had the shrimp and scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly. But, again with the chorizo which was overpowering. We also had the pork chops, very good but a large portion. My son had the salmon and it was good, probably the favorite meal out of the three. This is a lovely atmosphere and staff is friendly.

We made a reservation for 3:30 and were told once we were seated that the kitchen was closed till 4. Why take reservations for tables during a time when you aren't serving food? Our server was the bartender who forgot about us once the food came. We had planned on dessert, but we grew tired waiting for someone to check on us, so I walked to the bar and got the check myself and we left. If I wasn't such a sucker for ambiance, I would stop going there. I've seldom had a normal, easy experience at Shire.
