We had the Chinese NY Banquet. The venue is great, the staff professional and courteous and one can imagine the effort and financial risk it has taken to bring this project to fruition. I would like to return but only when the menu gets more exciting

It was a great experience. Our waiter Giulia was super helpful and caring. We had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious! Our favourites were the dumplings, peking duck, steamed fish and blue swimmer crab noodles with XO sauce. For dessert the banana, biscoff and cream special was to die for. Thank you guys! We had a great time!

This is our first visit to the 3 floors Song Bird. We ordered the 8 course Chinese New Year Banquet, which is almost a collection of the a la carte courses that we’re interested to try. As always we’re impressed with Chef Perry’s dedication and pursuit of excellence - quality food produce with creative cooking/ presentation. The Peking Duck is one of the top two we’ve had in last 12 months - we love the tenderness of the duck meat and the fine balance of the crispy skin. The steamed coral trout with ginger shallots, a common dish cooked to perfection. And the winning dish of the night, the blue swimmer crab Shanghai noodles; the freshness of the crab meat combining with the xo sauce, I just want to keep having more. The only course we’re let down a bit is the big eye tuna with spicy sauce, a bold try but not really matching;also the sticky rice balls and sweet rice are both a bit plain, not a strong dessert to finish meal. Overall the cooking is superb and in my view it’s a lot better than many Cantonese / Chinese restaurants. The service is fine dining style for many staff. A very satisfying dining experience and we surely will return.

I expected a wonderful dinner and was not disappointed. Food was amazing, staff just delightful and ambience awesome. We had the Chinese NY banquet and each course was divine. It was our 24th wedding anniversary and the staff gave us a great table, lots of congratulations and a lovely cupcake to finish the meal with. Anything Neil Perry does is fantastic and this includes Songbird- do yourself a favour and go for Chinese NY

Lovely experience, no notes :) Yes, a bit expensive, but totally worth it for the premium service.

We were excited for Neil Perry’s return to Cantonese cuisine at Songbird. Our lunch started well with decent dumplings including an exceptional dumplings of Pearl Perch and an excellent prawn toast. However the larger dishes were strikingly inconsistent, with many being really sub par. The skin of our crispy Sun Farm chicken was soggy while the meat lacked taste - Songbird’s version of Cantonese crispy chicken is worse than any recent version we have encountered in budget suburban Chinese restaurants. The soy sauce noodles were greasy and had a hard inedible texture like reheated takeout noodles. The garlic sauce drowning a plate of choy sum and mushrooms was a brown gloopy tasteless mess. One highlight was the superb steamed coral trout - the superbly fresh fish was steamed to perfection. While there were many wait staff, our waiter was unfriendly, inattentive and lacked knowledge.

While a lovely evening, the restaurant, the food and the ambience was average. There was no polish to the restaurant. We did expect more
