South Block is a North-Carolina inspired BBQ hall and brewery on the edge of Mission, in Calgary. Upstairs you’ll find a large dining room, 20-seat bar, and a year-round indoor/outdoor beer garden. Downstairs hosts our stage, live music hall, and brewerey – where we brew our entire draft lineup from classic staples like our Pilsner, Lager, and IPAs, to our unique seasonal Peach Bourbon Ale and Mango Wheat Ale.

Behind the bar, we run a hand-crafted cocktail program and offer a whiskey list of over 200 varietals, including American, Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Japanese whiskeys.

However, the biggest draw has to be our slow-smoked barbecue menu. Inspired by the flavours of North Carolina, our team arrives early every morning to smoke our famous brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and more for up to 14 hours.

    Band was good but very loud. Cocktails were very expensive but the two we tried were yummy! Great food, great service!

    Food was absolutely delicious! I loved how you can just order all the different kinds of meat separately! Great place for a carnivore! Drinks were top notch as well. If you’re a whiskey drinker this is the place! Server was very good and she was very friendly! Was a busy place and we barely waited at all! Highly recommended!

    We had never been to South Block until last night. We went to hear our friend's band, Whiskey Monkey, and our expectations were exceeded in every way!

    Great music, great food, and Ramona was a fantastic waitress. The only disappointment was that the band was cut off after 2 sets even though lots of people were dancing, which was a bit of a head scratcher.

    The food was some of the best barbecue in the city. Their whisky menu is extensive and the ambiance is great for a family setting.

    Really enjoyed the food here! It was my first time here and as it was barbecue, I did have high expectations! Service was great, food was delicious and ambiance was good! I guess it could have been cheaper, but these days all restaurant dining seems pricey so I guess it’s in line. It ended up being $60 for lunch for two with no alcohol.

    Sent food back because it was cold. Replacement food was warmer but definitely not hot. Live band was playing, they were good if that is what you were there for, but even at the very back of the restaurant it was so loud there was absolutely no having conversation. So that was a bummer for us as we came to catch up over dinner. Woke up with my voice being hoarse from trying to yell conversation over the music.

    Great food. The meat was cooked to perfection! Will come later at night next time as the band was just starting and the place was getting packed! Fun atmosphere.

    Great place and tasty food, good beers and friendly staff. Like the setup, atmosphere. Listened to live band. Excellent volume control. Still could talk. I’m coming back.
