Square Grill House Restaurant & Piano Bar in the heart of Bath.

Open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch and afternoon drinks. Throughout the day the terrace by Abbey Square and lounge area will be perfect to relax with a drink and nibbles. As the sun sets and we get ready for dinner to serve our signature dishes with the best local produce. Our resident Pianist will begin, and cocktails will flow.

The restaurant is beautiful with venetian walls, banquettes upholstered in leather and marble feel tables.

Visited Bath for Valentine's Day and The Square Brassiere and Piano Bar was our post Valentine's evening venue. We were booked in for 7:30pm and expected to be there for a couple of hours or so. From the moment we entered the premises we felt we were special. The staff were polite and attentive, the venue was welcoming and nicely laid out and the pianist was fun and accommodating regarding requests. We had the set Valentine's menu, none of which disappointed, delivering a variety of choices within it's framework. We had a great evening, eventually leaving at closing time. Service was great and staff friendly. Our food came out in good time but lukewarm and meat was dry. It was beautiful plated but flavour wasn’t there for me. We were looking forward to the pianist but we found ourselves leaving for drinks elsewhere. I personally wouldn’t go again. Shame as it was the first meal myself and my partner have had out in a long time.

When we got sat down there was some confusion as to where the table was. It took quite a while for someone to see us while other tables that got sat after us had been seen had had drinks before anyone came to see us for drinks. When the waiter came to take our order we ordered 3 steaks as the oz of the steak was smaller than we would’ve wanted so we ordered one each and then one to share. The waiter seemed shocked and said you want 3 steaks in a judging tone which we didn’t appreciate. However there was a blonde lady who was lovely and seemed very friendly. The sparking rose we ordered was lush. We ordered 2 starters and one of which was a gluten free bread bowl which came with no butter so just dry bread which wasn’t great. After we had finished all of our mains we sat with our empty plates for around 15-20 minutes before someone cleared them. The waiter then dropped dessert menus on the table without asking if we actually wanted them and we were then left with them for 15 minutes before anyone came back which is when we just asked for the bill. We were shocked to see that we had been charged for 3 sauces when we only ordered one and that the service charge was over £17 which doesn’t reflect the service we received. We had the bill amended paid and then left with no goodbye or thank you for coming etc. I know valentines is a busy and stressful night as someone who also works in a restaurant however I just feel for the price of the food and kind of restaurant this is the service should be really good and I just didn’t feel that tonight.

Pictures when booking did not reflect where we were sat and the ambience was lacking. Service was excellent and food good.

I had a a Chicken Caesar salad with large chunks of chicken piled on top which I did not like it wasn’t like a Caesar salad at all. They tried to justify price of £16 by doing that he chicken was red in colour with a spice on it and it was dry don’t recommend Fish pie ok little dry inside, over priced food but lovely restaurant gt ambience
