En 1933, la Prohibition venait d'être abrogée, et le pays se trouvait entre dans l'entre-deux-guerres. Cette même année, le Restaurant Stroud a été créé. Le Stroud's a d'abord ouvert comme un restaurant de barbecue par Guy et Helen Stroud, à la frontière du comté, entre la 85th et Troost. Le relais routier est resté un restaurant de barbecue jusqu'à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Pendant la guerre, en raison du rationnement du bœuf, Helen Stroud a commencé à servir du poulet cuit à la poêle. Le plat d'origine coûtait seulement O,35 USD ! En 1977, deux barmen du Kelly's Westport Inn, Mike Donegan et Jim Hogan, ont racheté le Stroud's. Après avoir hérité de deux cuisiniers et de recettes d'Hélène, ils ont inventé le menu qui est encore proposé aujourd'hui. En 1983, Mike Donegan, son frère jumeau, Dennis, et Jim Hogan ont acheté l'Oak Ridge Manor, dans le Northland. Un troisième emplacement à Wichita, dans l'État du Kansas, a rejoint la famille du Stroud's en 1992. Le Stroud's d'origine a fermé ses portes en 2006, avant de rouvrir à Fairway, dans l'État du Kansas, en 2008.

We have eaten here more than once. The service was not up to par this time. We were seated rather promptly and our reservation would not have mattered as it was not crowded at all. Our server did not seem very friendly, but we were served our beverages rather quickly as well as our salads...Receiving our salads is when the quick service ended except when it came time for the bill. It took a good 25 minutes from the time we finished our salads to being served our entree with sides. Not once did our server apologize for the lengthy wait nor did she even offer cinnamon rolls or anything else during our long wait. We were not the only table this was happening to as we heard the family in the booth behind us comment about how long they were waiting for their food as well. She seemed to disappear for periods of time and rarely came by. I noticed several other servers simply standing at the counter talking. A couple of times we needed refills on our drinks and went without something to drink for a while. Eventually she came around to refill drinks and offer us to go boxes. She was quick to offer boxes and our check as if she wanted us out of there...and we might have been faster but if you are waiting for your food for 25 minutes and then have to wait for drink refills that definitely slows you down. We will be back because this is the closest location for us to enjoy the pan fried chicken and sides. Usually we have decent service, but this occasion was not acceptable.

Food was fabulous! Portions are large so we had enough leftover for a second meal. Cinnamon buns are my favorite!

We were seated promptly as soon as we arrived and that was at 5 P M. The six of us in the party were having chicken and pork chops. There was some confusion as to the two different sides of the menu. Some of us were reading and ordering off one side and others were ordering from the other side. Apparently, there is a family style and everybody at the table must order either family-style or individual individualized portions of meals. The prices,of course, varied. There was an $8.50 charge for splitting of a meal and then the prices were more expensive on the back for a family meal but the individual meal could be lower by $3 (!?) Our service was okay. Half way through the meal we were informed that we would be having cinnamon rolls served shortly. The person ordering the pork chops had to cut away the crust since it was too dry and tasted not well and he liked the juicy pork chop he eventually got to eat. Another person removed all the skin from their chicken but still had a taste of a lard mixture on the chicken breast, thigh and wing. The cinnamon rolls arrived warm and hot but at the end of the meal ("shortly" is the new term for '40 minutes from now') as we were leaving -- it was rather unfortunate that the ticket arrived at the same time as the cinnamon rolls. We had a party of six, and told we all had to order family style, or the individual meals but couldn’t mix. Two of us ordered the individual chicken livers, and there is way to much livers. 4 people couldn’t eat all the livers. We would have been happier with a lower prices, and half the a,unit of livers. The cinnamon rolls, really aren’t cinnamon rolls, more dinner buns with cinnamon in top.

Restaurant was out of lemons. Too noisy to have conversation. Waitress next table almost had to yell to large tablenext to us to explain restaurant history. Other than noise everything was fine.
