Welcome to Sugarbird Cafe, Montrose, CA's unique scone and tea cafe.
Nestled in a cozy, shaded outdoor courtyard, it's the perfect spot for casual tea under the Cali sun, with limited indoor seating for a more intimate vibe. Variety of scones, from classic strawberry buttermilk to unique Cali-inspired flavors like fig rosemary, all perfectly crunchy outside and moist inside. Elevate your tea experience with our handcrafted teas, delightful tea sandwiches, and house-made jams. Please note, we need 36 hours advance notice for special dietary requests for wheat-free, vegan, or kids menu, 10 & under. 18% gratuity is auto-included on the bill & parties of 6 or more will have a 20% charge.

This is the second time I come here for a girls tea time. Both times have been great! I will definitely be returning in the future. I found the place via Instagram through a friends posting. It looked cute, yummy, and calm, so I decided to check it out. I was looking for a place to catch up with my cousin and this seemed perfect. Very happy I went with this. They are welcoming. They explain to you the menu and how it works. All the sandwiches are yummy. The sconces are tasty! The tea, let me tell you. I didn’t grow up much with tea but u e come to like over the years. However the mixes that Sugarbird does…man oh man, I have yet to try one that I don’t like. Same for my cousins, they never really drink tea but they loved it at Sugarbird. The outdoor seating is cute. It’s in a quiet neighborhood. It’s just very peaceful. For the price, the experience, the tea, and sandwiches/sconces, it is a good deal. Inside the cafe it’s very cute as well. One restroom, and very clean. Parking is on the street, they have some right across from the little alley.

We had a delightful mother-daughter afternoon tea here. It was a celebratory time for us and we felt very welcomed to dress up and enjoy a posh tea here. We were excited to see it also could be a casual place to go. The tablescape and tea was lovely. Real china, real sugar cubes, real devon cream (!!!), nice heavy weighted teapots that kept the tea warm. The three-tiered stands were adorable with cut-out edges on ours. The pastries and scones were delish. Our own complaint was that we really wanted an egg-n-cress sandwich! There was one sandwich, a whipped cream with orange and pomegranate which felt more deserty than savory and wasn't to our liking. The others were fine. We just always assume a traditional egg salad is somewhere on the menu. Despite this, we enjoyed ourselves, the service was attentive, but allowed us to indulge in a good long talk, and the tiny gift area was fun to browse in.

I booked afternoon tea for a group of four. We were seated promptly, and blankets were provided to keep us warm outside, which my guests loved. The tea and scones arrived quickly, and everything was delicious—warm tea, tasty sandwiches, and lovely desserts. Although the outdoor seating is near the road, it wasn’t busy, so noise wasn’t an issue. Some additional separation, like drapery or dividers, could enhance the ambiance, but the shrubbery provided adequate distance. Overall, we had a fantastic afternoon and will definitely return. Thank you!

My three great friends and I met a Sugarbird to celebrate a Christmas tea, and it couldn’t have been nicer. The outdoor seating area feels like a little room with the umbrellas and the pretty tables. We were lucky to have cool but not cold weather, and were prepared to sit outside, so being in the sun added to the feeling of enjoying a backyard tea. The scones were outstanding, particularly the blueberry lemon, and the feta chive. All the sandwiches were beautifully prepared and the sweets were fantastic as well. Our servers took such good care of us and gave us plenty time and space to enjoy each other without rushing at all. This is a yearly tradition for us and we all agreed it was one the loveliest times we’ve had together. Keep it up, Sugarbird! P.S, they have scones to go, and you can also get frozen ones to take home and bake. Certainly did that!!

This place is perfect for an afternoon tea date with friends or a loved ones. The decorations are adorable and all the items for sale in the shop are great! The tea and the food is so delicious and just all in all a wonderful experience. Definitely will be coming back

My wife and I had an absolutely lovely time having tea here. The location is lovely, the shop is adorable, and the scones are so good.

We decided to sit outside for the afternoon tea, because the table and setting was lovely and relaxing. They do a great job making you feel comfortable and spoiled. It was a little breezy and they supplied blankets for our comfort. The tea, served in pretty, floral teapots and matching cups, the tiered service of sandwiches, quiche, mini scones, and a variety of other delicious items, was beautifully presented and delicious. This was a great way to enjoy the afternoon in comfort, beauty and with delicious variety of food and refreshments. Also, our server was wonderful too.

Lovely high tea. Everything was delicious. Variety of excellent scones to choose from. Tea sandwiches were excellent and sweets....we had to take them home. Staff and owner (?) were attentive and friendly. Pet-friendly outdoor tables. Highly recommend for a very reasonable and casual tea environment. Will definitely return to purchase from the bakery case.

I took my wife for an afternoon birthday tea at Sugarbird. The owner was so kind and attentive, the selection of tea and scones were plentiful and unique, and everything was delicious and paced and presented nicely. I love how quaint the shop and cafe is and it is decorated nicely. I did know going in, that our service would be outdoors, and we were lucky that is was not too hot outside. I think that while they are doing great with the space that they have, that it would be nice to have more umbrellas and space between tables. There were three tables set the day we went, and I felt like I was hearing everything all at once from other table's conversations plus the road noise, since the tea area is on the easement. Everything was great overall, and we would recommend having a tea service at sugarbird if you are in the Glendale-Pasadena area. If they happen to grow to have a more private patio space that would be such a great upgrade!
