Using local and seasonal ingredients is the most important element in Japanese cuisine. It also has become the primary principle for the international culinary community. With commitment to that philosophy, Tamura features sustainable seasonal ingredients of the Pacific Northwest in authentic Japanese preparation.

Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.

Chef Omakese is not worth the money, at least when seated in the dining room. The sushi was pretty good, but we have had much better around Seattle and this was overpriced. The “premium sake pairing” is just 3 sakes poured at the beginning of the meal. The server did not know when we asked which should be paired with which course. Sub par experience but might be better service for omakese at the sushi counter.

The sashimi was very good, and the restaurant is very attractive and clean. However, it is very expensive.

Sushi is just different in the Pacific Northwest, used to having great quality in NY and LA as well as Japan. Prices are more competitive in NY/LA and more bang for the dollar in terms of quantity and quality for nigiri sushi.

We had the three-course prix fixe with a couple of appetizers to supplement, and came away sated and happy. The quality of the fish was outstanding and the waitstaff were jovial and attentive. We were not rushed and the coursing was well paced. Definitely recommended.

The parking instructions wasn't clear. There were no signs how you get out of the parking lot.

The sashimi and nigiri were fresh and were of high quality cuts. However, the rolls were less impressive for the price. The sushi rice was well-executed and did not taste gummy or overly seasoned, which is a plus. The a la carte menu had a large variety of local and imported fish and shellfish. In addition to sushi, the center of the menu had options for a 3 or 5 course meal, which may be worth going back to try. The flight of 3 sake selections was curated and interesting, while the non-alcoholic rosemary apple cider soda was rather basic. I left with mixed feelings - the ambiance was quiet enough for conversation, the service was good, but the restaurant felt like it excelled at offering a multi course meal with sushi on the side rather than sushi being the main attraction. For the price that we paid, it is not competitive with the options from other sushi-only restaurants, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
