   We have gone to Sushi Zanmai for many years, back into the 90s. We took a break because of terrible service for a large group on 2 occasions. We came back to try again with a smaller party. The fish is fresh and good, but the service is just okay, and the overall experience ( atmosphere and service as well as a poor cocktail menu and disappointing revised menu) was a disappointment. Bummer. It was a wonderful place in past years.

   Wanted to try something new and Zenmai did not disappoint. Number one haw to be the food quality. Just wow! Sushi and sashimi just melt in your mouth and rolls were inventive and extremely tasty. Loved the local casual vibe of this place and clearly popular without an open table anywhere. Slight service inconsistencies did not ruin the experience as the staff was extremely busy. We will be back!

   I had the grilled salmon teriyaki. My husband had sushi. Everything was very good. I didn't realize that the salmon came with rice, vegetables and salad, so it was pretty filling. The wine and cocktails were very good. The server was very attentive...just the right amount. The only negative was that it was cold outside and whenever the door opened, it brought in a draft. Our table was closest to the door. Next time, I'll ask for a different spot.

   Sushi Zanmai has always been our go to for special occasions. We had a large group for a birthday celebration and we reserved one of the back rooms (always fun!). The wait staff is always on top of things and very gracious. Unfortunately the food was not good. The fish was chewy and some just didn’t taste good and was not up to par as it usually is. The past several visits have been the same, sad to say. Not sure what is happening but Sushi Zanmai needs to improve or they will sadly lose clientele to better sushi restaurants around Boulder.

   Excellent sashimi and sushi Sake was mediocre and overpriced Spiced edamame was soggy and was prepared in an odd syrupy marinate

   The food came out very slowly, we had to ask twice what was taking so long. It was more crowded than expected, but on Christmas Day they should have been prepared. Very small portions of seaweed salad, sushi was decent, they were out of the desert we wanted, the drink my husband ordered was very small. We probably won’t return.

   Service on a Sunday Night was slow, but the server was helpful & pleasant. We also weren't given the happy hour menu, and had to ask for it.

    The food was good and the service could have only been better if our waitperson had returned to our table after we received our food. But it was Friday night in Boulder with a CU event happening on the mall, so it was extremely busy. I didn’t rate it 5 because the rolls weren’t the very best I’ve ever had (in Boulder). Overall, it was good and enjoyable though and I would recommend!
