Welcome to Tahona! We are the first mezcal bar and tasting room in San Diego. In our restaurant, we invite you to taste our incredible craft cocktails and our amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine featuring Oaxacan bites. In our tasting room, we welcome you to indulge on a mezcal tasting experience!

We are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda designed with hand painted tiles, handmade rope seats, traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca, hand clayed walls and more.

We also have a cozy covered outdoor patio dining experience so you will have the choice to dine inside our hacienda or on the streets of Old Town!

A wonderful date night compliments of our Chef Adrian Villarreal. This is a 3 course meal for $95 for 2 people, with an array of appetizers to start your dinner, followed by your choice of 2 entrees, and finished with a wonderful dessert. This dinner also will include 2 of our made from scratch cocktails, beer, or wine! While dining at Tahona, you will have wonderful live music to set that atmosphere for a perfect date night!

Executive chef Adrian Villarreal has created a special menu paired with 4 mezcals from Vago (Tepextate, Mexicano, Espadin Jarquin, Elote)! The menu will be: 1st Course: Hokkaido Scallops with Toyon Berry Glaze 2nd Course: Variety of Local Root Vegetable "Enmoladas" 3rd Course: Braised Beef Cheek with Oaxacan Coffee Demi Glace 4th Course: Mango Tres Leches Cake The Founder of Vago Judah Kuper will be in house to educate on each of the wonderful mezcals! Amazing food and service. The cocktails and mezcal were exciting and the food surprised and satisfied with every bite. It was hard to keep from licking the moles and other sauces off my plate.

We really loved Tahona and will definitely be going back. The tacos we had were fantastic, and the starters were a mixed bag. Guacamole was tasty but not your usual - very smooth and lime-y with the onion and tomato on top, which was unique and tasty. The chips were very well made and plentiful! The drinks were fabulous and as someone new to mezcal, the recommendations were great. Our server and host were knowledgeable and friendly and welcoming. It's also really cute inside. It's a skosh on the pricey side, but we knew that going in. I'd come back for the cocktails and Happy Hour menu for sure. Thanks for great experience! I'd recommend folks go.

Our waitress was amazing! Poor thing was doing all the tables, bussing, and serving. Because they were so understaffed it did take a while

GREAT service, the food was good, but the kitchen got slower the busier the restaurant got.

The service was outstanding. Having lived in Mexico I would say that the food has a very authentic flavor, but there were 2 drawbacks the meat in my quesabirria taco and my wife's vnison taco were a bit on the dry side. The choc flan dessert is out of this world. We could have eaten nothing but that. We are interested in going back to try other menu items. The overall value is good.

It was truly an amazing 1st experience. Zach was outstanding and very passionate and knowledgeable on food and drinks. He made our visit special and memorable. This is was our 1st time and I will be back.

Not only is the food, ridiculously amazing, but the service was top-notch. The gentleman who brings all the plates to your table, takes his time to explain each one with such detail and enthusiasm for the quality of product.
