Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond.


TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

The restaurant grows its own produce a mile up the road for dishes like an heirloom tomato salad with chile paste and fried shallots or a killer fried chicken sandwich with papaya salad, served in a colorful, glowing dining room and outdoor patio.

    We really enjoyed the vegetarian meal everything was absolutely delicious especially the unique use of spices. Our waiter was excellent. Parking was the only issue, but we found a place to park.

    We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The egg rolls were excellent as well as the Three Flavor Fish. Our waiter, Noah, was wonderful! He was warm and friendly and very helpful.

    Everything was spectacular…food, service and atmosphere. Only complaint is that the seating at the booths in the main restaurant area are very, very tight. No room to move. Felt very compressed and unable to move around. And no way to adjust. Table and benches are fixed. Very cramped and uncomfortable.

    Nice waiter. He made sure to check to make sure the items we ordered were not going to bring about an allergic reaction 👌👏 although I feel like the food was all just ok. The cilantro salad was good, the egg rolls were good and the mushroom dish was good. Didn’t need the sticky rice, nor the broccoli, ribs, or chicken curry dish. Didn’t like that the curry chicken dish consisted of only one part of the chicken which was a chicken leg. I wish they would have mentioned that it was a chicken leg in the dish as it’s my least favorite part of a chicken. Since I was with friends I didn’t want to complain about anything. But very nice waiter!

    YUMMY! We did the Chef Selection Tasting Menu…so great! Everyone loved it! I would do that every single time…. Ask your waiter if one of the courses is the fish… if so ask to have them show you how to break it apart. That would have been helpful😊

    We had a spectacular evening at Takoi! We planned a special evening out with longtime friends and were looking for a treat! The ambiance was lively and our waiter Connor added so much to our fun experience. Connor was attentive and amusing, and had quick entertaining answers for our numerous questions and kept us laughing. The food was over the top, we had 6 dishes and they were all flavorful and super tasty. I don't know if I can pick a favorite? The Som Tum Thai salad was the perfect level of spice and enough for the 4 of us to share. Gai Yaang, the grilled half chicken was cooked to perfection and we ate every bite. The crispy spare ribs and the Charred Broccoli were also excellent. It was pretty much a perfect meal with great surroundings and excellent service. Oh, I don't want to forget, I had possibly the best spicy Margarita I have ever had! I will be going back!
