Plus grand musée d'art d'Orange County, le Bowers Museum propose des expositions, des conférences, des cours d'art, des programmes de voyage, des programmes d'éducation artistique pour les enfants et d'autres projets communautaires. Tangata (or "mankind" in the tribal Maori language of New Zealand) features Southwestern decor enclosed by glass walls and a ceiling framed with stuccoed beams and large windows to allow ambient light to illuminate the main dining area. Located in the Bowers Museum's mission-style courtyard, the 160-seat restaurant dedicates half of its available seating to al fresco dining on a large patio area. The patio area opens into the mission-style courtyard that is perfect for romantic weddings or evening receptions. Tangata is perfect for social or business luncheons, dinners and gatherings. I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED IN TANGATA. I took a client there for her 85th birthday on Wednesday afternoon. We were a group of eight, and I made the reservation for 1 p.m. to avoid the noise of the busiest hour. The menu was more limited than I had anticipated, but the service was good. Additionally, everyone enjoyed their meal: tuna melt, hamburger, French dip, veggie sandwich, etc. They even served a complimentary creme brulee for the birthday girl. With so much good, why am I disappointed??? BRACE YOURSELF. We were wrapping up conversation and slow to depart after having settled the check, but rather than the server or a manager stopping by the table to tactfully say something to politely prompt our departure (for example, "Thank you so much for joining us. We closed at ____ p.m. and you are our last table. May we clear your plates?"), the manager/staff simply TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS ON US. This was not an accident. We were in plain sight of them, but they never again acknowledged us. The birthday girl said, "Well, I guess they must be ready for us to leave. We can take a hint." THEIR POOR CHOICE WAS RUDE, INAPPROPRIATE, AND UNACCEPTABLE. If this had been handled tactfully, we would have completely understood and been out the door within minutes. Instead, some spineless staff/manager chose to turn out the lights without warning. I am surprised they didn't start a vacuum cleaner, too. As a result of my February 12 lunch experience, I will never again recommend Tangata, nor do I expect to return. More importantly, I will tell this true story to 100+ people.

I have eaten many times at Tangata and have generally been satisfied with my food. This time my soup came cold and it took over 15 minutes to get a warm bowl brought to my table, my toasted sandwich had a rancid oil flavor from the grill yet was also not hot (it was a tuna melt). My son’s beef dip looked over-cooked as well. Generally I would say the food was mediocre which is not what I expect at Tangata. Frankly, I think your menu can use an update. Adding a few luncheon pasta dishes or bowls would be WELCOME. Thank you

A very good restaurant for people who know and delight in delicious, fresh & well prepared food! AND its location at the wonderful Bowers Museum makes it a perfect, double pleasure!

I brought in a group of 14 on a Sunday before a lecture. I made a reservation and they had a big table ready. The service was very good, the food was very good, and everyone was able to pay individually - no check splitting issues (memo to other restaurants - since when is this a problem?) Overall a good experience, and I would recommend the restaurant for group events.

The number of menu items over the many years we have come to the restaurant has been reduced so options are much more limited. Good service and tables are spaced farther apart than most restaurants. Good.

The veggie sandwich was YUM! My friend really enjoyed her manchego salad with salmon. Jorge was a sweet and attentive server. Sitting outside at the Bowers Museum provides all the ambience you need.

We had lunch at Tangata before a lecture. I highly recommend doing this. The food and service are always excellent.

The menu is rather limited and so sorry you no longer have brunch options like the French toast. The service is excellent and friendly. A decided difference from what it was several years ago when the manager was just plain unpleasant. I have a hearing disability and noise level gets difficult when the restaurant fills up.
