Designed by Rockwell Group, TAO Downtown offers a distinct sense of arrival and discovery and is the first TAO venue where guests descend into a multi-level space. The subterranean restaurant, located in the heart of Chelsea, is intended to look and feel as if it has been there for decades and only unearthed recently to reveal the artifacts within. Upon arrival, guests immediately encounter a long corridor with a dragon scale patterned screen and Chinese calligraphy murals mounted on weathered brick walls.

    Had a great time celebrated me and my best friend birthday here for a nice date food was great drinks was great our favorite was the purple haze drink. Would definitely come again .

    I love it!! This is my 2nd time going here. Like the environment. The food is so good and not that expensive. If you want something classic and not expensive this is the place to go!!

    Everything was amazing!! I loved the place and the service!!! We took advantage of happy hour and when we were ready the host brought us to the table to celebrate my love’s birthday 🎂!!! The server was super helpful explaining every detail in the menu and giving us some recommendations to choose our food and drinks!!

    Food was okay, very salty and portion was not up to par, or expectations. But, what saved the night was the bumping DJ, the jams were literally a whole mood. Almost started dancing, actually did dance. Definitely recommend this place for the vibes and ambience, NOT the food. My entree was smaller than my dessert, but more expensive. Buddha was big and good for pictures, but use flash, very dark in there.

    One of our favorite's in NYC. Atmosphere is great, if you like a very lively, club like feel. Food is excellent as well as the service. A must stop every time we are in town.
