Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Ahwahnee Hotel offers a dining experience steeped in history and natural beauty, with a "glorious dining room" that leaves visitors in awe. Despite some operational challenges like "understaffed service" and ongoing renovations, the buffet style allows guests to sample a variety of dishes, including standout prime rib. While some patrons note the need for improved food quality and clarity on dress code enforcement, the overall ambiance and "wonderful service" make it a memorable visit, especially for those seeking a "bucket-list experience."

The hotel is beautiful, but the dinner buffet is really substandard. Especially for the price. Go for the eye candy, NOT the buffet!

We’ve been coming to Yosemite for Thanksgiving for over 30 years. They Ahwahnee used to have very good food. But we gave up on Thanksgiving dinner there several years back when they started serving a very bland fixed menu and still charging a fortune. This year, after a long hiatus, we thought we’d try the night before Thanksgiving, thinking they would have their regular menu. Nope… instead they had a truly awful buffet. The food was uniformly cold, with no real flavor. $300 for three people for a buffet that was worse than Golden Corral. Even the service was not good - slow, and we had a server behind us talking crap about other diners during our entire meal. There were two saving graces: a decent bottle of wine (for $75), and a good pianist.

The dining room is a magnificent hall. The surrounding view is breathtaking, especially in the daylight for breakfast. Our servers were great. The hotel is in the midst of some construction, so the main kitchen has not reopened yet. Therefore all meals are buffet. That is why I gave the food 4 stars. For buffet food was good and plentiful, but I will come back another time to order off the menu for the 5 star food experience. The experience over all was worth it.

The buffet for dinner was poorly kept up with food; many empty stations. The food seemed maintained at a questionable temperature and certainly wasn't worth the price. We travel to the Ahwahnee every year, and this was the worse experience for us. I don't know if they were under staffed, but they couldn't keep up with the food. The prime rib was adequate, but cut thin and cold. The dessert selection was unimpressive, and not what you would expect at a higher end hotel. The staff was excellent, very attentive. We won't return as long as they have a buffet for dinner. Hopefully, when they are back to table service they will have a better menu and different chefs.

An amazing brunch in a beautiful building. So much good food and great service. Right at the moment the views out the windows filled with construction Chaos and a dozen shipping containers. Might wait until the construction is done.

Absolutely excellent! The service was beyond wonderful, the food was fantastic and the ambiance with a grand piano and concert pianist was perfect! They handled gluten free dining beautifully and made me completely comfortable.
