The Alex is a tribute to prohibition. This cozy speakeasy takes you back to the 1920’s with a touch of modern swank. Enjoy a carefully crafted cocktail menu, bites from our Chef selected shareables or one of our weekly featured dishes. Telephone-themed details pay homage to the bar’s eponym, Alexander Graham Bell. Only accessible by keyless entry using a special code, The Alex is the ideal destination to mosey up to the bar and spend the evening partying like it’s still the prohibition era.

Currently playing: The Blue Dot Jazz Band, every Friday & Saturday 6:30pm - 9:00pm.

We only had rinks at the speakeasy and enjoy it there very much! Wonderful service and ambiance.

We were the only ones there. Food and drinks were way overpriced, even though it was happy hour. Staff was friendly, but not much going on. Pianist was good, but not much jazz played during the break… a lot of rap. They need to do some marketing.

The Alex was the perfect speakeasy with some good light bites for the four of us to share. Nice cocktail menu. They had an amazing Jazz singer, guitarist and piano player who also performed some cover hits. Was a bit loud if you wanted to engage in conversation with your date/ group but definitely manageable. We will certainly come back next time in DC.

This is an intimate speakeasy. The music on nov 30 evening was excellent. Beautiful jazz trio that can play just about anything. The drinks are inventive - and expensive. We pay because we like to hear the music. We had a wonderful server, Carla, who took good care of us. I think everyone should try it! By the way, the French fries are worth the trip! Hot, crunchy, crispy, with a touch of parmesan. Almost ordered a second helping!

Cozy and small venue with nice jazz trio that was excellent and provided great entertainment, Which merely became background noise and Everton conversed at there respective tables. Service was good and the food. I’d recommend the speakeasy as a place to hang and enjoy a cocktail while listening to some good jazz!

We had a 11pm reservation Sat Nov 2. Ambiance was nice, cozy, and there were only 3 other tables occupied when we arrived. There We didn't order food (app forced me to rate food). We only had cocktails, which were good but felt the price was too much. We just came from the St. Regis bar where the cost of cocktails was similar but quality and value was much better,

Enjoyed our evening, food and ambience. Liked the venue. Jazz group was just ok. Felt the addition of a flute instrument to the jazz group was too loud for the venue.

This place used to be amazing. Our last visit was amazing, but this time absolutely no ambience, back door open, clearly more concerned with an out door private party, the place was freezing, no music and crappy service. Terrible experience and won’t be back.

Love the vibe of the speakeasy and that of the bar just out front. Super friendly and attentive staff with a fun vibe and cocktail selection. Will definitely return!
