   Valentine’s day Dinner went so wrong. It took took two and a half to serve overall not great food. The steak was good. But it took way too long.

   This was our first experience with the new ownership group, and, as they say in baseball, they've lost a few miles off their fastballs. The menu is the same, but the food isn't quite as good. We live 40 minutes away and have always looked forward to making the trek to Brewster because we knew that this was one of the finest restaurants in the Lower Hudson Valley, but if our latest experience is representative, The Arch has dropped a notch. For example, the sauce for the Beef Wellington was overly salty, the orange sauce for the excellent duck was a tad too sweet, and the chocolate soufflés hardly tasted of chocolate. Service was impeccable, as always, and the staff are very friendly. The place looks beautiful.

   First if all, I usually never write a negative review as I know how difficult the restaurant business can be….but given the price and anticipation, I do feel obligated I grew up in Brewster and always aspired to be able to dine at the Arch…I think it’s been there at least 50 years. My parents gifted us a treat to have dinner here so we took advantage for New Year’s Eve. We were greeted, with zero warmth, at the door and guided to our table….the decor is fairly non-descript…background music was nice The waitstaff, although friendly, seemed very under-trained for this type of establishment . The menu was concise, so seems like service should be somewhat seem less…it was not. The food, from the bread thru dessert, was average, at best, although I did thoroughly enjoy my soufflé dessert. At the price, the dishes and presentation was nothing special and there was an odd ‘slimy’ component in the chicken cordon bleu (the adjacent table sent two dishes back for same reason). I really wanted to be ‘wowed’ after waiting 50 years to try….I was very disappointed… In addition, the new years even menu seemed to imply that a glass of champagne was part of the experience…it was never mentioned, nor offered….

   The arch is a wonderful restaurant, especially if you have a special occasion. The service, the ambience, and the delicious food all make for a wonderful experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant any higher than outstanding.

   We used to be constant customers at the Arch before it changed ownership. This is our first time going to the Arch since the old owners retired and we were dissapointed with the overall quality of the restaurant. The general atmosphere of the Arch was not as cozy as it used to be. My wife ordered escargot and it was not as good as past. I ordered artichoke appetizer that was not what I expected. It was fried and did not taste good. Thus the first portion was disappointing. The main course my wife had the branzino fish which she loved. I had a filet mignon cooked medium. It was very tough and not what filet should be. It should be tender. For me it was not good. Also no side came with it and thus I had to purchase a side of mashed potatoes. Now comes the last course or so we thought the dessert. All we were asked is if we would like coffee or cappuccino or tea. There was no dessert menu. The only dessert that they offered when we began ordering was soufflé. We were expecting some other dessert to complete our dinner but no dessert menu was offered. For 2 people without tip it cost close to $200 for a meal that was not worth anywhere close to that amount. We were looking forward to a nice Anniversary dinner (which I mentioned in Open Table reservation but no one even said congrats) but instead had a 2 out of 5 star dinner. We will not be going back because of the quality of the food. In conclusion the old Arch always made great food and made you feel special. This is non existent with the new version.

   Food was outstanding, service was attentive, warm and friendly. Beef tartare was the best we’ve ever had. Can’t wait to return .

   Food was delicious, absolutely amazing. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. However, service was a problem, lack of attention. May have been understaffed and hopefully that was the case.
