The Barre, Arts Centre Melbourne’s sleek space, offers a touch of luxury and hint of showmanship. You’ll find a lively pre- and post-show buzz that takes the bar and eatery from early evening to late night.

The modern Australian menu, with its emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients, offers both small and larger dishes to be shared and enjoyed with friends. Choose from a well-considered wine list with prominence to local winemakers, an exciting range of craft beers and ciders, or a distinct selection of cocktails and small-batch Australian gins and single malt whiskies.

The world of booze, bubbles and beers is ever-changing and The Barre is excited to also offer a range of alcohol-free options.

From a pre-show sparkling with a share plate, a meal with a fine wine or a mellow late-night drink, we invite you to join us at The Barre.

Our food was excellent tonight and it usually is. The service is efficient and the food comes quickly since many people use it as pre theatre dinner as we were.

Close and convenient when attending a performance. Staff are excellent. Not sure about the new menu - haloumi lacked that soft gooey texture

Currently best available pre-show dinner at Arts Centre itself. Member benefits suspended. Handy parking beneath, access revised recently. Noisy when crowded, it resounds, so book early. Menu is varied, drinks are plentiful, they have a happy hour.

It was a busy night but there were plenty of staff, mostly young males strolling around nonchalantly looking bemused with no sense of urgency! The service was painfully slow and if it hadn’t been for the only two female staff i doubt we would have got our food! Having said that the food was delicious when it came and the manager and the two female staff were apologetic and gracious. We just made it to our show on time thankfully 😅!

I dine here regularly and it is usually very good but this time i was disappointed. The service was quite slow and the food wasn't up to the usual standard. I ordered baked snapper and it was just so bony. It was quite a small piece and hidden by a pile of salad but underneath the head was still on so half the piece was a bony head. Usually the head waiter asks how your meal is but she came so soon after the meal was served I'd hardly tasted it. When the waiter came to take the plate away I mentioned that the meal was terribly bony but he ignored me and walked away! I don't mind a few bones in fish but this was half bone and there was too much raw onion which repeated on me. We were thinking of having dessert but no one came by to ask if we wanted anything else so we got fed up and left. It was a Monday night so must have had the B team on.

We recently had a very pleasant start to the evening at The Barre before attending a performance at the Recital Centre nearby. The staff were welcoming upon our arrival and when taking our order. The selection of drinks and meals on offer suited our requirements perfectly. The wait staff were attentive and ensured our needs were met throughout. Each course was delicious and came in good time without being rushed. This meant we could take a leisurely stroll to the venue after.
