In 1960, R. J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas on Route 66, the “Mother Road”. It’s distinctive architecture soon became recognized across the Mother Road as a good stopping place for great steaks grilled over an open flame. The Big Texan is famous for the FREE 72oz steak challenge, which includes eating a salad, baked potato, shrimp cocktail and 72 ounces of beef! It was a very good meal we shared on Valentines Day. We were very impressed! Good srvice and a wonderful dinner.

The hostess was fantastic and our waitress was wonderful. We make it a point to visit atleast every 4-8 weeks but this visit was one of our best.

Pure tourist trap. Hostess was indifferent and didn't care for us at all. Food and service was good, but the ambiance is just like Disney World, nothing authentic.

Great wait staff! Porterhouse Steak had a good amount of fat but did taste good. Sides were good. Rolls were good also.

I enjoyed the look of the place and the service. Great visit. The 72oz was cooked perfectly. The cut was a little tough and had some large tendons. All in all a good time.

Will definitely be returning! Lubbock native and never came for a visit. Everyone one was pleasant and kind which made it that much more enjoyable! Thank you Big Texan

Had a good time watching two guys fail at 72oz steak contest. Have had better steaks in quieter surroundings, but it’s what they do and they do it well. Worth a visit at least once if you’re in Amarillo.

Always a great steak for a good price. If you want a really good deal, try the 72oz challenge. You can take home whatever you don’t eat. For $72, it is a great deal!!
