We dined here early on NYE, and at the time there were only two or three other tables occupied so difficult to say about atmosphere/noise level. Service was prompt and staff were friendly and attentive. I chose this restaurant because they specialised in seasonal ingredients. There was no menu online to see in advance so it was a bit of a gamble, but it certainly paid off; I had a pigeon breast starter followed by a venison stew, both of which were fantastic. My companion, less adventurous, enjoyed a pasta dish and we felt the variety was good. The pricing was very reasonable.

Having eaten at The Brasserie before I was keen to return having recommended it to a friend. Unfortunately this visit wasn’t as good as I had experienced the time before. The setting is lovely, the presentation is great but sadly the food just wasn’t as good. I didn’t recognise any of the staff, albeit they were reasonably attentive. The wine was amazing and so was the fillet steak but the rest of the meal was heavily salted and inedible. The staff did immediately resolve without issue however the apology was not great. With that said I would return but I would be very clear about how I would like my food. Could certainly improve on customer service and I did feel new staff should be trained on quieter nights and not Friday’s or weekends. All in all I would recommend but I do feel the chef and staff a bit need more training/support.

Quiet, not many people eating there. Food was mediocre; a little bland. Service fine. Ordered from a la carte, which mentioned set menu prices for certain dishes. Turns out that wasn’t actually available on the night we dined, which the waitress pointed out was ‘in the small print’ on the menu. Sadly not somewhere I would return as food absolutely nothing special and the place lacked atmosphere. Disappointing as had previously had a nice brunch there.

FAQs

Guests most often single out the steaks (the Friday steak special gets particular praise) and the Sunday roast as standout choices. Monkfish with risotto and some fillet steaks are also mentioned as favourites, while desserts and puddings frequently receive high praise as the best course. If you want a safe bet, the steak specials and the roast are consistently recommended by guests.

Yes, The Brasserie offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options across seasonal menus, and several dishes are marked (gf/vegan) on event menus. Guests confirm the restaurant provides vegetarian and gluten-free choices, though some guests reported specific items (gluten-free bun or brownie) were unavailable on occasion. It’s wise to call ahead to confirm availability for strict dietary needs like coeliac disease.

Yes, while explicit policies aren’t listed, guests regularly arrange celebrations and pre-orders, and the restaurant accepts larger bookings. Call ahead to request dietary requirements, seating preferences or celebration extras (e.g., birthday arrangements). Because a few guests reported inconsistencies with special requests, it’s best to confirm details by phone or email before your visit.

The restaurant’s public materials don’t state a waiting-list policy. Guests recommend booking for popular times (Friday steak night, Sunday roast and special events), as those nights draw more diners. If a last-minute booking isn’t available, call to ask about cancellations or a waitlist, the team appears responsive and may be able to advise on availability.

The Brasserie has mixed morning and evening service across the week: Mon–Fri 07:00–11:00; Wed–Fri 12:00–21:30; Sat 07:30–21:30; Sun 07:30–11:00 and Sun 12:00–17:00. These hours suggest breakfast and lunch service plus evening dining on midweek and weekends, it’s a good idea to check current hours or call ahead for special dates.

Casual dress is the stated dress code, but guests often describe a smart, stylish interior, many diners opt for smart-casual attire for evenings. In short, comfortable casual is fine, though smart-casual will match the restaurant’s polished ambience if you’re dining for a special occasion.

The restaurant runs special menus for holidays (e.g., Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are listed), so it does open for certain holiday events. There’s no comprehensive public schedule for all public holidays, so phone ahead to confirm opening hours for a specific holiday.

Yes, the restaurant changes its menu seasonally and publishes special menus for events. The owner states the menu changes with the seasons, and provided Valentine’s and Mother’s Day menus illustrate rotating and occasion-specific offerings. Expect seasonal mains, specials and dessert features that change throughout the year.

Portion sizes are generally generous and well judged. Multiple guests commented on generous portions, especially for dishes like steaks and Sunday roasts, while others described mains as good-sized and puddings as a highlight. A few guests mentioned some dishes felt smaller for the price on certain nights, but overall you can expect hearty, well-presented portions consistent with contemporary British dining.

Generally yes, families and children dine here for birthdays, afternoon tea and Sunday roasts, so the venue is family-friendly in practice. However guest feedback is mixed: some praised friendly service for family celebrations, while others reported rushed service for children’s meals, missing promised treats and timing issues. If you’re bringing younger children, consider an early seating and call ahead to confirm children’s menu items and service arrangements.

Yes, The Brasserie is a solid choice for a date night thanks to its stylish, intimate setting and high-quality cooking. Guests frequently praise the beautiful decor, attentive staff and dishes like steaks and monkfish that feel special. Be aware some evenings can be very quiet (which some couples like) and a few guests noted occasional service inconsistencies. For a lively evening, try a weekend; for a quieter, more private dinner book an early weekday table.

Busiest: Friday night steak special, weekend evenings and special-event dates (Valentine’s, Mother’s Day) attract the most guests. Sunday lunch/service, especially Sunday roast, is also busy. Quietest: early weekday evenings and some early-evening midweek bookings (guests recall arriving to a near-empty restaurant at 6pm). If you prefer atmosphere, choose a weekend; for a quieter dinner pick an early weekday slot.

It depends on your priority: for great value and a lively steak-focused meal, Friday (steak night) is the best choice. For a classic, generous meal and a traditional feel, Sunday is ideal for the roast. If you want a quieter, more intimate experience, aim for an early weekday evening when the restaurant can be peaceful.

Yes, The Brasserie has a fully open bar and offers a wide selection of alcoholic drinks. Guests mention an affordable, well-curated wine list, cocktails and a range of spirits and craft beers. The bar is open to non-dining visitors too, making it a good spot for drinks before or after a meal.

For a special meal, Friday steak night and Sunday roast are highly recommended, they’re praised for value and quality. If you prefer a quieter, intimate dinner, early weekday or early-evening bookings can be peaceful (some guests note the restaurant can be very quiet at 6pm). Weekend evenings tend to be busier and more lively; book popular nights in advance.

Yes, The Brasserie runs regular specials and events. Guests praise the Friday steak night as excellent value, and there are wine-tasting evenings and other special events that showcase the chef and suppliers. The ambience is stylish and comfortable with a relaxed, smart-casual tone. Many guests praise the décor, pleasant atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff.
