Argh all our food came out within 20 minutes. Thats nibbles, starter and main meal. I couldnt digest it fast enough, so didnt eat all my main. Very dissapointed. Complained to manager who said that he has requested the kitchen to slow down. A bit late for us though! I had the potted squiral for starter and that was lovely. Then hanker steak for main but although i couldnt finish it, it was lovely. Couldnt fault the food, it was really tasty and cooked to perfection. But really could have done with more time between the meals. Im really dissapointed by the service and it ruin our night, as we had hoped that we could spend more time at the chop house, but were finished within 25minutes of arriving. And £70 down. Its quite expensive to dine there so was a treat for me and my hubby.

My wife and I (from Hove) celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the restaurant with friends from Edinburgh. Our welcome, service and overall experience throughout the evening was excellent. The food was interesting, varied and equal to the service we received. Definitely a restaurant we would visit again - and recommend to all friends & family.

Great food and service, lovely ambience. Handled a garlic allergy well, waitress helpful and knowledgeable about menu.

Great food and service. The best ambiance is found down stairs, with many step up and down moments to get around so not best for those with disabilities. Much of the charm of the place is in the nooks and crannies and so doesn't lend its self to buggies or very large groups of people - max comfortable seating is probably 6. But it is a really lovely place - with a great deal of character, somewhere you can disappear into for a while with some good seasonal food.

Ambience was comfortable, and relaxed. Staff were professional, polite, attentive and seemed very genuine - neither overly familiar or detached (which I find is often the case in other restaurants) Potato and leek soup was enjoyed by all who ordered, steak and chips with various butters very tasty and good value on pre-theatre fix price menu. Beef Wellington was very nice with lovely rich gravy but not worth double the price of the steak at £28. Sharing platter tasty and enjoyed by a very proficient home cook. Only complaint was a lack of blinds to block out blinding sunlight that caused us to move table halfway through the meal.

Excellent steak house with really good service! Me and my partner went for a celebratory graduation dinner and the food did not disappoint. The staff were extremely attentive and provided helpful food recommendations. The restaurant also has a pre-theatre set menu which is good value for money. We had food from the ala carte menu - smoked mackerel pate for entree, butler steaks and a combination of the champagne sorbet and gooseberry and elderflower ice cream, all of which we highly recommend. One star off for the extremely pricey sparkling wine which was fairly average. For the value of the sparkling wine, we would recommend a bottle of red wine or their house beers instead.

Disappointing overall. Good attention but only mediocre food to be honest. Was expecting much more. And the truffle mash was awful - they really need to have a look at the recipe and change it. Only worth the price of their pre/post-theater menu - wouldn't pay a penny more.

We've been twice to the cambridge chop house and both times we enjoyed the ambiance and loved the food. As we needed early bookings, we were able to take advantage of the early pre-theatre offer which is excellent value. The service was great, but we were not rushed. We will definitely come again.

We booked the Chop House for a pre-theatre dinner. The service was pleasant and timely and the food was of good quality and well cooked. I had the Butler steak, which was excellent.
