Please be very careful if you book. I booked Canteen in Portobello but the app booked The Canteen in Wimbledon. I was charged £40 for a no show. I got no alerts so I did not spot my expensive mistake until it was too late. Please make it clear that there are several restaurants with the same name.

After taking money from me to hold the booking and then sending me texts to confirm I was coming, I arrived with my guest in the rain to find the restaurant closed. No one picking up the my messages to follow up and absolutely no courtesy note to explain. I have sent countless of messages and been met with silence. A real disappointment as we were excited to try somewhere new. Unprofessional at best!

Fabulous food - delicious duck, chicken, steak and other dishes. Think we over ordered as had about 9 dishes between the 2 us - we didn’t need the chips! Waitress was lovely and it was her first day on the job, so very impressed with that.

Second time at the canteen and this time for a special birthday celebration. We all loved the food, it was excellent- we tried the entire menu and Victoria had baked a fantastic chocolate cake which we had preordered for the birthday girl. Has a warm feeling of a neighbourhood restaurant and authenticity as its British with a twist. We all want to go back.

We were a party of 4 and given the sharing nature of the menu we decided to have all starters and share mains. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was also great with nice music and friendly staff. Definitely worth going and we will all be going back soon.

Had a lovely meal here, the food is really good and pricing is reasonable for the quality. One of the best restaurants in the neighbourhood. Everything we eat was delicious with special mention to the arancini. The duck main was extremely popular. The steak was perfectly cooked, my husband is exacting when it comes to steaks and he loved it.

The food and environment was excellent, we had a really warm welcome from the owner, would definitely go back again!
