   Having budgetted for 2 3 course meals at the set price, I was disappointed to find that this was not available unless the ' menu du Jour' was the day's menu. However the food was excellent and the staff friendly and welcoming so a good experience all round. Next time I will phone before booking to check if the set price menu will be available. But we will certainly visit again and can absolutely recommend The Chequers.

   We ate here as a family of 6 on a Wednesday evening so knew it would be fairly quiet this time of year and just after valentines night but it didn't spoil our experience Table was beautifully laid with a lit candle too. Menu was interesting and plentiful food served with a lot of care. We all enjoyed our meals. It was served in a friendly efficient manner. Certainly one we will return to.

   Lovely gastro pub, real fire. Candles on tables make for a cosy, romantic setting. Food sensational. Staff very attentive.

   There was four of us & we all enjoyed our three course set Valentine meal. The choice was good & we all enjoyed what we opted for including venison suet pudding, steaks & a duck leg. In fact the venison suet pudding was such a large portion that a dessert could not be eaten by the member of our party who choose this option! Waitress was very nice putting us by a fire as it was a cold day & was quite chatty & friendly We all enjoyed our meal at The Chequers & would definately come again

   We were pleased with a good range of gluten free options on the menu (slightly less so on the dessert menu.) The menu was quite wide ranging and fairly imaginative. Another vegetarian / vegan option would be nice but, overall, the choice was good. Presentation nice. You can always quibble over minor points as that comes down to individual taste and that will always be the case anywhere. We enjoyed our meal and the price was pretty fair. Yes, we would go back there again and, yes, we would recommend The Chequers to others. Not sure if the wine list includes any non alcoholic wines but that would be a nice option, particularly as non alcoholic drinks are in greater demand than every.

    Welcoming and friendly staff. Extensive menu choice. Food arrived in good time. The Cumberland pin wheel and bubble and squeak cake was served with a delicious gravy. The haddock was very fresh and served with minted mushy peas and well cooked chips. Will definitely return to sample more dishes.
