Located in historic Blagden Alley in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood since 2015, The Dabney continues to pay tribute to the wonderful farmers, watermen, and purveyors of the mid-Atlantic region whom provide some of the best and most unique products in the country. We celebrate these ingredients by preparing them in a large wood burning hearth which is the centerpiece of our open kitchen. The current dining room experience is an 8-course tasting menu honoring the Mid-Atlantic's bounty. We offer an additional 3-course experience at our bar and bar area tables. Walk-in guests are welcome to enjoy the bar area as well.

The Dabney has been awarded one Michelin star every year since 2017, James Beard Foundation Best Chef Mid-Atlantic for Chef Jeremiah Langhorne in 2018, and Washingtonian Magazine's #1 restaurant in 2023.

At this time we are unable to accommodate severe allium and dairy allergies as well as vegan and vegetarian diets.

Amazing meal, front to back nearly every bite was amazing. Little too much and very expensive but worth the splurge

The food was amazing and the service was very personable. The only downside was that the pacing of the courses was very slow and irregular, leaving us waiting for long periods of time without the next course or a refill of our wine glasses. We finally asked the server to leave the wine bottle at the table so we could pour at our own pace. The interior of the building was very cozy but the exterior of the building made it difficult to find. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would recommend it to others, with the realization that this dinner will take nearly 3+ hours to experience.

We went for my mom’s birthday so I wanted it to be a stellar meal. Most of the courses were fine - nothing super special or outstanding, but no fault either. I wouldn’t have necessarily called it Michelin worthy but the food was fine. The main course, however, made my husband and I both pause and wonder. It was a pork prime rib served with a couple of sides. I can typically eat some fat without reservations and like them when done well, however there was significant portion of fat on the prime rib that was not rendered and tasted just pure fatty and cold and unappetizing. The lean part was under seasoned, although the sauce that accompanied it was tasty. The spinach on the side was undercooked and the croissant rolls were not exciting. We were still hungry after the other courses so we were very much looking forward to a nice main course and this was a serious let down. In addition, the pacing of service was just off. 8 course without wine tasting took 3 hours and 45 minutes and we were very much growing impatient after 2nd course. Overall disappointing experience.

The Dabney is an outstanding place to dine. The restaurant offers a fixed menu with very limited capacity for substitution and no choices offered at any of the courses. We have been to and have enjoyed dining at several restaurants with that format, such as Metier and Glen Gordon Manor. If this approach to dining is not to your liking, then you might not enjoy The Dabney or any others using this format as much as we did. Several of the dishes were highly original. There was nothing that we would not order again. However, I must say, that I want a whole plate of the little oyster pie we had as an appetizer. And the clam. And the charred carrot. And the grilled rockfish. Service gets a 10. Friendly, knowledgable and attentive. The wine service requires special mention. We have the wine pairings, which were very well thought out and excellent matches for the dishes that were served. We especially enjoyed being served wines from two regions that were new to us. I am now trying to find both in local wine shops. Bottom line: we plan to return to The Dabney after the menu changes so we can try additional dishes. One note of caution: the mapping service that our Uber driver used had trouble finding the resaturant. The driver let us off in front of Unconventional Diner on 9th St. I could see on his phone that this was the location he was sent to by the mapping service he was using. We were actually let off across the street from one of the entrances to Blagden Alley where the resataurant is located. No matter, it was a short walk to the restaurant from there. Do bring your smart phone and do turn on google maps before you go.

Interesting at first but in the end a scrap of charred cabbage is just a scrap of cabbage and the cocktails were flavorless but the bill was super sky high.

Service was amazing! Love beverage program, appetizer and desert was fire, unfortunately it was very difficult to eat my stake. I did place knife and fork in a position that signals that something is wrong but I think it’s not something propel do in USA. Place itself and fire pit was very impressive. Would definitely come back to try again
