Very disappointing. Having called in advance to ascertain whether or not they could cater for our 11 year-old coeliac daughter and been told that they could indeed do the burger, bun and fries all gluten-free, it was extremely irritating to be told on arrival that the oil they make the fries in is also used for batter containing gluten and so they could not provide gluten-free fries. This completely ruined what was supposed to be a special supper out for our daughter. To add insult to injury the staff were not remotely contrite and made no gesture of apology to her.

We were warmly welcomed, and the pub’s friendly and inviting atmosphere set a great tone for our visit. It’s a charming spot with excellent service and an impressive selection of Butcombe beer. The chips were fantastic, crisp, and perfectly cooked. However, the BLT sandwich was a letdown. The ingredients seemed pre-prepared, diced, and mixed with a bland mayonnaise, served on granary bread. It lacked the freshness and flavour we’ve come to expect from a classic BLT. Unfortunately, my wife also found a hair in hers, which was disappointing. While today’s experience fell short of the high standard we’ve enjoyed in the past, we know this is not typical of the pub and will certainly return for another visit. This version maintains your points but balances the critique with a constructive tone.

Absolutely fantastic meal and atmosphere. We had Sunday roasts and the dinners were huge and beautifully cooked with the most delicious gravy! What made the dining experience better was the excellent service we recieved from the staff, the girls were all happy to be there and ready to help, really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Great atmosphere too for the winter months. I can’t recommend highly enough. Thank You.

Lovely food. Attentive staff. It was really heartwarming to see a country pub bustling and full of people and chatter and laughing when we arrived on a Tuesday evening!

Lovely meal, great food and location. Very quiet on a Monday night which suited us. Will definitely visit in daytime as looks like the views will be very pretty.

Wonderful food! Rabbit, Pistachio and Peppercorn Terrine for starter followed by Cannon of Lamb. Had just enough room for dessert so tried the Foraged blackberry and cherry Bakewell tart with pistachio ice cream. The plate was sprinkled with a chocolate biscuit crumb which really complimented the ice cream. A lot of thought has gone into the creation of the menu. I love the fact it is a seasonal menu and this dinner certainly had an autumnal feel to it. The only criticism was that was the most expensive lime and soda I've ever had!
