Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

Not sure why I was surprised but this place was excellent! Really great wine list that even impressed my California guest who is a wine expert. Staff was great and we enjoy live Native American flute music. Highly recommend. Classic for the Denver area and great to impress out of town guests.

The whole evening was very nice and we celebrated my mom's birthday. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. And the ambiance is really cool! However, for the high priced dishes, the food quality was fair and WAY OVER priced. When I pay that much, I expect high quality, down to the last detail. I ordered the Wild Game plate with potatoes, green beans, bison, elk and quail. The elk and quail were perfect. However, the bison was tough to cut and chew. Several of my beans still had stems on them; come on, these are basic chef skills... My potatoes were very salty. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. Her grits were also very salty and the shrimp had way too much batter on them. My son ordered the seasonal fruit cobbler for dessert. He's dairy intolerant and the description says free of dairy; they served it with a scoop of ice cream on top. They did bring him a new one but another missed detail... I'm sorry, but these are mistakes that don't warrant a $50+ price tag. I get the experience is novel, but some changes need to be made in the kitchen.

My husband and I moved from the Denver area to Myrtle Beach a few years ago, but were back visiting family for his birthday and decided to go to The Fort for dinner since we had never been before. The building itself is neat, and the wait staff was very courteous and attentive. There was little to nothing on the appetizer menu that I would eat since I am not into game meat, so that was a bit disappointing. I wish there had been some stuffed mushrooms or pimento cheese dip or something that was not spicy or gamey. The salad was good, as was the bread, but the entrees were very disappointing. My husband had a buffalo prime rib that he said was mediocre at best, and my $65 steak was so full of gristle that I ate less than a 1/4 of it. Truly, the best items we had were the mac and cheese with green chili (delicious) and the chocolate chili cake they served to my husband for his birthday. The bill for three people was about $300 and included a percentage for kitchen staff. I really do not like included gratuities like that as I think restaurants should pay their employees appropriately to begin with in w way that the customer does not have to see. Overall, it was certainly not worth the money, and we will not go back.
